5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, rich, inspirational album
After hearing "walk away", I was hooked. Little did I know that the rest of the album was even better. If you like Pearl Jam, Better Than Ezra, and/or Live...you'll absolutely love this CD. Just make sure to let the CD run after song 12, b/c the hidden song (at around 13:56) is amazing! It saddens me to think that they aren't selling millions of albums right...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the S&H
I can see now why this cd is selling for $0.01 I wouldn't care so much if all I wasted was a penny on this cd, but I paid $2.50 after shipping and handling. This is a classic example of a band that releases a single and then creates an album of songs that sound absolutely nothing like the single. I bought this cd because I really like the song 'Walk Away'. The rest of...

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably my favorite cd ever, January 29, 2006
This review is from: Grand World (Audio CD)
I recently rediscovered this cd. I originally bought this cd the month it came out. I enjoyed it then, probably liking four of the songs at the time. Over time I lost the cd and last year got to thinking about it, so I ordered it used for 50 cents. When it arrived I listened to it and liked it even more. I honestly can not believe this cd was not much bigger. If I won the lottery one of the first things I would do is put my money towards rereleasing this cd. I don't care if the band refused to get back together. That is how much I love this cd.
I'm not saying everyone reading this will love this cd. All I can say is this - A music fan whose taste run from Korn's first cd, In Flames, Sarah McLaucklin (sp?), Hour Cast, Sans Seraph, and Demon Hunter thinks this may be the best cd ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING, December 3, 2005

One of the most overlooked, underated CDs to come out at the time. Brilliant from start to finish. I hope at least the singer is still doing something, maybe a solo record? Anyone? These guys were magical live and the CD is an absolute masterpiece.

4.0 out of 5 stars One Of The Last Great Alternative Bands Of The 90's . . . ., April 2, 2003

If this were 2-5 years ago, I would have given this a 5 instead of a 4. It was definitely great for its time, though.

It's a shame music like this doesn't seem to come out anymore. I think that the lack of new material (and this particular type of college rock in general) resulted in me losing a slight amount of interest in this cd, despite the fact that "Walk Away" and "Hope I'm Wrong" are two of the best songs I've heard from a band that I accidentally discovered on MTV2 in mid-'97. I actually don't know what was so great about "Don't Wanna Be Here" that I went and bought the cd. It's a good thing that I did, though! At the time, it related to me in a variety of ways, and it made even more sense to me as I grew older.

They're also class act guys who perform great live shows. If you know of CFA and feel the need for a similar fix, check out a band called Foam. It's almost CFA, minus the fact that you know better. And I'd like to state that Gordon Vaughn sounds a bit like Peter Murphy (Bauhaus).

In general, you can't go wrong by buying this album. You won't hate yourself for listening to it and enjoying it - I promise. Instead, you should hate yourself if you're skeptical of at least giving this band a legitimate chance to appeal to you.

First heard "Dont Wanna Be Here" when it was on the radio back in early 97, got the album after I went to college later that year. It's still being played at least once a week. Every song is incredibly listenable and powerful. Very, very accessible. The lead singer has an unusual style--unusual in an awesome way. I heard, almost a year ago, that they had a new album in the works, but I'm beginning to think otherwise. That's really unfortunate. A masterpiece like this from such an amazing, talented band should not go unnoticed. The record store at the mall in Boone NC has this one, used, for 99 cents. Go get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Georgia CFA Fan, February 3, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Grand World (Audio CD)
I saw this band perform at the Macon, Georgia Street Party in 1998. They captivated the approximately 30,000 fans. Dynamite show! Lead singer, Gordon Vaughn, and fellow band members stole the show from the headliner band, Days of the New. Gordon is one of the most dynamic performers I have ever witnessed. Grand World is a terrific CD, one that I have enjoyed very much the past two years. I look forward to their new release, hopefully soon. All Grand World songs are very good but my favorites are New Song, Walk Away, On and On, Trials, and the "hidden" track song, Spinning. It is hard to believe that this band is still relatively unknown. Perhaps the new CD will receive the type promotion the first one didn't. Buy Grand World now so you can tell friends that you knew the band before it was discovered.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can we say AWESOME!!!!!!!!!, April 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Grand World (Audio CD)
I first heard Cool for August at the Macon Georgia street party in 1998. The were one of the openers for Days of the New. I thought that Cool for August put on a much better show than the headligners. They are going to outdo some big names here pretty soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous CD...should be in everyone's Library, April 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Grand World (Audio CD)
First of all I'd like to warn everyone that I'm a rather avid music listener....my collection spans all sorts of music from death metal to new age and almost everywhere in between. Anyways...I picked up Cool For August's debut "Grand World" on a whim thru a music club. I had never heard of the band before or heard any of their music. Just saw the cover in the mag. and said 'what the heck, I'll try it' (same way I found out about Live and several other bands btw ;) Anyways....that was about 2 years ago and Grand World is still in heavy rotation in my car and at home..... It's a great cd and everyone should buy it.... All the tracks are great (my personal favorites being 'Sylmar' 'Of You' and 'Wheels')

Go buy it now!
