Simple and Fun,

Mat and Kim are constantly playful and their music gives off a strong playful vibe that seems like a sonic cocktail. There's just something refreshing about hearing music made by a couple of people messing around on a keyboard and drums - they're not exactly the best music you've heard but they're pretty fun. I don't listen to Grand very often, but when I do, it makes me happy, like a had some Oreo's dipped in Baileys.

Matt and Kim's album Grand, is a spectacular album that was introduced to me by the younger crowd. I became a huge fan of Matt and Kim after watching their music video "Daylight". Daylight is their key single, and it doesn't require any warming up to like. I fell in love with its simple, catchy, unique lyrics. Sung by Matt who has a great voice and is perfectly casted with the wild Kim. In concert these two are insane! I watched them live at this years Lollapalooza in Chicago, and let me say they are awesome live.
The energy that this album creates is in every crisp song on this tightly packed album. Every song is like a party, and you can hear where the money went into the making of this music album. In a popular video interview, Matt and Kim spoke about the making of Grand, and how it was a learning process. Instead of paying a studio to make the sounds and record every song on this album, Matt and Kim invested all of their funds towards the gear and equipment the would need to have more control over their own music. What you hear in Grand, is fresh, and something inspired by the top 40 hiphop. Kim plays the drums with frenzy, and daft skill. She and Matt are best friends, and are always happy to just be making music and partying with people who like what they do. They haven't blown up yet, but by the looks at Lollapalooza, they are on the verge of becoming a huge band. They love Chicago, and party hard. They are well known for their likeability, and their willingness to stay in touch with their fans. You can follow Matt and Kim on twitter (like me) or by way of their awesome website. They are promising to find out all of their fans. "You don't have to come see us, we'll go to where you are." I highly recommend this band. Daylight will hit your ears like tasting strawberries with whipcream for the first time. I love this band, and their talents are no better seved than on Grand.

I've been listening to this album on the way to and from work while reading the paper, and I often find myself not even reading the words on the page, but instead focusing intensely on the sounds and patterns of the music. I can't explain how it draws me in so effectively. Every song on this album is amazing, especially Daylight, Good Ol' Fashion Nightmare, Lessons Learned, and I'll Take Us Home. With 15,000+ songs on my ipod, I haven't strayed from this album in more than two weeks.
Can't wait to see these guys at the Black Cat in September.
