5.0 out of 5 stars Blisteringly fast, heavy, blasphemus, its Marduk alright!, July 21, 2001

I should say this is almost strictly for diehard hardcore Black Metal fans. Marduk is one of, if not the finest Black Metal bands out of Sweden, which is a rarity since most BM bands are Norwegian, where the genre came from. However, Marduk is anything but foreign to the style. The execute it flawlessly. The fury, glory, darkness and evil can be felt in any Marduk release. While previous Marduk releases kinda lacked an indication to melody, pretty much a black metal noise, which isnt a bad thing, dont get me wrong, just trying to say LGDM is slightly different!, LGDM is a bit more melodic, and gorrvy, some influences can be traced beyond the BM genre. While they're retaining all the usual BM gimmicks, such as satanic oriented lyrics, corpsepaint, spikes, etc, which is great, adds to the atmosphere. This album shows they are growing as musicians, making great music which only improves with time.

This is a great album, dark, evil, raw, VERY in the Marduk vein. If you heard previous Marduk efforts, dont pass on this one. Even if you didn't, Marduk is something you shouldn't pass up on if you like Black Metal. The riffing is great thanks to Hakansson which is a veteran in Marduk and the scene, bass actually can be heard unlike most BM albums, B.War is one helluva bass player. Drumming is MONSTRUOUS (as on all Marduk albums :) Fredrik Andersson seems to be an 8 arms octopus, vocals are EVIL, Legion vocals never disappoint, this guy really knows his stuff.

All in all, a worthy Marduk album. Get it, if you're into this type of music, it won't disappoint you. I dare to say this is one of, if not the best Marduk album. Hail Marduk!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Black Metal for the New Millenium, May 12, 2001

Marduk definantly proved themselves with this one, as with every one of their albums... They seem to progress and get better with their evolution. It's fast, blasphemous, and very heavy. The musicianship is excellent on this. I recommend "La Grande Danse Macabre to anyone who is hungry for some extreme black metal in the vein of Mayhem and Dark Throne. This cd is amazing. You will not be disapointed, so click "buy", and let the madness begin.

4.0 out of 5 stars The last part of the Blood, Fire, Death trilogy, October 20, 2001
By

With "La Grande Dance Macabre" Marduk have reached the end of their trilogy of albums, and we see something of a return to the older style again. Perhaps Marduk feel that after "Panzer Division Marduk" they have nothing to prove when it comes to speed, so they slow it down a bit on "La Grande..."

That was a good choice, because when they slow down, it seems they gain as much in songwriting skills as they lose in speed. A solid black metal album that leaves you wondering in what direction Marduk will take this black metal batallion.
