Whenever you think about Argentinean music, you think about Tango. Tango actually is Buenos Aires City's music.
But there exist a rich universe of Argentinean folkloric music as representative as Tango and very different from it.
Here you have a collection of songs that express the soul of the "gaucho" (the cowboy of the "Pampas", the Flatlands from Argentina); the moods of the "Collas" (Incas' descent that populate the North West Argentinean Provinces and Bolivia and Peru) more nostalgic than the first.

Jorge Cafrune (1937-1978) was a great folk singer. He was a true "gaucho" even if his ancestors came to Argentina from Syria and Lebanon. This community blended seamlessly with the Spaniards and Collas descents in the NW as Jewish descent did in Entre Rios Province giving rise to the "gauchos judios".
Cafrune's voice was unique and high pitched coloring the songs he sang with a personal mark.
Cafrune died when he was performing a "musical raid" on horseback; he was crashed by a Land Rover in a very suspicious "accident".

The compositions contained in this CD emerge from different Argentinean Provinces, charged with their peculiar rhythms and sounds and delivered to the audience by Jorge's outstanding voice and his guitar.
"Balderrama" whose text is authored by Manuel J. Castilla and music composed by Cuchi Leguizamon, two well known folklorists, describes what happens in Salta's most famous "peña", a sort of pub where customers and artists mix freely, sing and drink from sunset till dawn.
"Sin Caballo y en Montiel" (Horseless in Montiel) authored by Don Athaualpa Yupanqui, great poet and folklorist recently deceased, tells about the sadness of a fleeing horseless gaucho looking to his lands across the river.
"La Cautiva" (The Captive Woman) is the love story of Indian Chief Alborevi and a beautiful Christian captive woman.

This is a CD to be treasured by anyone in love with folk music of distant lands and soloist admirers.
