Housed in a nice triple-gatefold digipack, Grandes Exitos (which I have to assume is Spanish for "Greatest Hits") is a deluxe, 3-disc retrospective of Spanish folk metal band Mago de Oz. The band takes a straightforward hard rock (and at times heavy metal) sound and infuses it with folk elements - lots of violins, flutes and Celtic melodies - for a truly memorable experience. Think Iron Maiden meets Jethro Tull...in Spanish.

Discs 1 and 2 feature some of the better songs from the band's various studio albums. They give you a good overview of both the band's unique sound as well as their progression as performers and songwriters. The only real drawback (and it's minor) is that since so many of the band's albums are conceptual, you lose that when you compile songs from different albums. Even with the language barrier, there is a certain feel to the band's concept albums that is - of necessity - lost here. Still, that's not likely to bother new fans who are hearing the songs for the first time.

Disc 3 is a DVD featuring a mix of music videos and live performances. This is where you really get to see the best of Mago de Oz. They put so much effort into their live shows - from costumes to stage sets to just an insane energy - that you won't believe what you're seeing. I should add that the videos looked a bit grainy on my HDTV, more so than a typical DVD would. Still, the DVD was the main reason I bought this set (I already have most of the band's albums), and I wasn't disappointed.

If you're new to Mago de Oz, Grandes Exitos really is the ideal way to introduce yourself to this unique band. It's a great overview of their career, and should give you a pretty good idea what they're all about. For those who are already fans, the DVD makes this a worthwhile purchase, though it's probably not as essential as the Madrid las Ventas or Barakaldo D.F. (CD/DVD) releases.

This 3 disc set is amazing it has the greatest hits and a video concert of it..its great i realy recomend it to everybody..Simon esta bien chingon

Esta coleccion tiene buenas canciones, pero faltó la mejor cancion de la banda que es Alma! tambien faltó La Venganza de Gaia.

"Gaia" es el verdadero album que contiene lo mejor de ellos.
