Best of Miguel Mateos, December 4, 2000

An excellent compilation of Miguel Mateos' best songs, this album showcases some of the best of "Rock en Espanol" by one of its best musicians. This collection includes titles released at the height of Mateos' career from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s. On display is the versatility of Mateos as a musician. His music crossed geographic boundaries, making an impact far beyond his native Argentina. His music gave voice to a generation coming of age in the Spanish-speaking world. The album mixes rock songs with a social message like "Cuando seas grande," "Lola" and "Tirar los muros abajo" with upbeat, up-tempo pop like "Obsesion" and rock love songs like "Beso frances."
Only the absence of the little-played but superlative "Hablando con mi angel" precludes me from giving this collection five stars, though it is one of the best collections of his work around and a great example of Rock en Espanol at its best.
