It is a trilogy of stories told by the ancient and mysical Grandfather to his young and imaginative non-Native audience. For children they are fascinating fairy-tales from another culture, and for adults they are perhaps an unusual exposition of an aspect of that culture about which very little is known. And for readers of all ages, they shed brilliant light on the relationship between human and animal creatures, or-as they are called in the book-the "two leggeds and the four leggeds." These stories within stories are at once profound, poignant, and amusing, deeply affecting and powerfully told, reflecting the best in gentle Native Ametican wisdom. All of the srories are wonderfully illustrated by Navajo artist Tommy Thompson, each painting a masterpiece in itself.
