Interesting and inspiring biograpy for children,
By
This review is from: Grandma Moses : Painter of Rural America (Women of Our Time) (Mass Market Paperback)
Interesting biography for children grades 3 to 5, ages eight through eleven. No pictures in this book. This is not a handicap of the book, children need to learn to read books, not necessarily skim books and look at pictures. The book, though, because it is a book about an artist, should be supplemented by the teacher or parent, with a book containing the paintings of Grandma Moses, or research on the Internet on this subject. The book is part of a series of biographies for children, a worthwhile, charater developing Women of Our Time series, which includes Helen Keller Helen Keller: A Light for the Blind (Women of Our Time) Rachel Carson Rachel Carson: Pioneer of Ecology (Women of Our Time) and Eleanor Roosevelt Eleanor Roosevelt: First Lady of the World (Women of Our Time) among others. This is worthwhile reading for girls and boys to help them to develop a sense of respect towards women and a positive view towards women. (the positive message towards women is the opposite of the negative self-image of some of today's most popular hip hop singers, male and female). Children need to develop a positive view of women from young. This series of books, then, is of value. |
