1.0 out of 5 stars A bit creepy, August 18, 2010

This review is from: Grandma Nana (English-Turkish) (Veronique Tadjo) (Paperback)
There aren't many Turkish-English kids books to choose from, so this one caught my eye. A slice of African life in English and Turkish... it seemed multicultural and interesting. What the "look inside the book" option didn't show were a few pages that talk about Nana and her "doll". "Grandma Nana has a doll, but it is not like any other doll." And "Grandma Nana never parts from her doll. The doll eats and drinks with her. The doll sleeps in her white bed." And "Grandma Nana's doll is very precious to her. It is her lucky charm doll and she keeps it close to her heart." Ok, getting a little creepy for a children's book. I understand that charm dolls are part of the culture, but it's on 4 of 11 pages that have text, and wasn't what I was expecting at all. I'd give this book a miss.
