Product Description

Grandma Utz's BIG BAG Handcooked Potato Chips are made with slightly thicker and un rinsed potato slices that are kettle cooked in small batches. The only difference from the original chips is the laminated packaging we use to preserve the fresh homemade taste.

My wife's father, who retired a few years ago, was a potato farmer. He knows a thing or two about potatoes. When he was operating the farm, he sold most of his potatoes to Frito-Lay where they ended up as Lay's Potato Chips. He would always "test" the new crop of potatoes by making his own potato chips. He'd use a mandoline slicer to create nice thick slices of potato and then would deep fry them. A couple minutes later there would be these awesome, thick sliced, perfectly cooked chips which then got a sprinkling of salt. Best chips I've ever had.

Sorry for that long story, but these Gradma Utz Handcooked Potato Chips taste just like the chips my Father in law makes. They are awesome. They hold up to thick dips without cracking and breaking like some other well known "thin" chips do. I don't think chips could be much better than these.

If you are fortunate enough to remember Charles Chips and the potato chip delivery man who'd leave a tin of delicious hand-cooked chips on your doorsteps, these are the closest you'll get to that taste. Handcooked in lard and generously salted, nothing compares to these chips. Thick cut, they hold up to dipping better than ruffled chips, but why bother using a dip? These are delicious on their own with an intense potato-ey flavor and a rich porkiness you can only get from pure lard. A treat for the potato chip cognoscenti.

These are no longer sold locally (must be regular flavored "GRANDMA UTZ")....I now order them in the bulk bag size and they come in a matter of one to two days and I share them with neighbors...when Gibbles stopped making chips, this is the closest thing that I could find in a product cooked in natural lard. Thanks so much for the availability and ease of ordering at the cheapest price that I was able to get on line.

These are so good, I've been eating Grandma Utz's for years. When I moved to Fla I could not find them in the stores, nor nothing that compared to them. (I am a potato chip lover, I think it is my birthmark lol) I began sending for them, I put on many pounds lol I've lost them since tho' :). I am now ready to order some for my Birthday in August. Prompt shipping so I'll hold off a few weeks. ;). SO about 2 times a year I send for them in bulk. Valentines & August. If you have not tried them you are in for a real treat. Keep in mind they are kettle cooked in LARD & a crunchy chip, but are out of this world to me! Try them, you'll love them as well. ENJOY! gjp-h

These chips are great! I've tried most of the readily available lard cooked chips and these, I believe, are the best. Goods Blue are a close second.

This amazon retailer is kind of expensive compared to the Utz online store.

I HATE potato chips. Always have. Dry, overly salted, abrasive. These are awesome! Potato flavor, mouth feel and crunchy . Beat thing I've had in a year. And I HATE potato chips.

Best chips since Gibble's and Charles Chips left the market. As to comments on cooking in lard, do a little research please. Lard is no more unhealthy than any other oil, and on some points better (high vitamin D, high smoke point, resistant to oxidation).

Also, if you get smashed chips, don't blame the product, that's the shipper. And, a flat bag has an air leak, it got punctured somewhere along the supply train, they blow a little nitrogen gas into the bag as the chips are added to inflate the bag and help keep the oxygen away.
