More About the Author

Mary Brown was born in 1964 in the small town of Roseville, Michigan. She grew up in a very large loving family under the tutelage of her mother and grandma. They taught her the importance of good food with plenty of flavor. Her family understood how important it was for them to stay together. Every year they held a family reunion at her Grandma Ruth's home.

There were generally over 100 people in attendance. This included many aunts, uncles, cousins, 2nd cousins, grandparents from many sides of the family. Mary's Grandma Ruth lived on a big 140 acre farm that has been in the family for over 125 years. This made the perfect place to hold the reunion. Everyone brought their favorite dishes for the pot luck dinners.

It was a tradition for each person that brought a dish to provide the recipe for their dish. As you can imagine there were many wonderful recipes being swapped each year. Of course they would have a vote for the best main course, best deserts as well as others. This made all of the women work hard though out the year to come up with something new and grand to bring.

This allowed Mary to grow up with a great love for cooking. Mary loves to bake for her family and her church. She is well known for her awesome deserts that she provides for the church bake sales every year. Mary strives to keep the old traditional recipes of her ancestors alive and has worked tirelessly with her mother to modernize them to reflect the today's baking. With better ovens and better choices of ingredients available today, these recipes have become easier and faster to prepare.

Mary has always cherished the wonderful memories of spending time in the kitchen with her grandma and mom baking for the family and wants to help other to make some great memories as well. Mary's driving force is the same as her mom and grandma before her, the love for her family and God. Mary has said many times how much she enjoys watching people taste the dishes she's prepared and then get a big smile on their face that say's umm good.

Hotdog Tater Tot Pie, sure to be a huge hit with the youth group Wednesday night. Mary, between your cookie cook book and this Pie cook book you've gotten me back in the kitchen and loving it!!! I can't wait to try some of these other pie recipes. I think I'll cook the Southern Banana Cream pie next. Thanks again.

I really enjoyed the tour through this book of great looking pies! I am a pie guy. As soon as I get my wife to make me the peach pecan and herself (I'll help her) the Lemon buttermilk, then it's on to the others! Thanks
