Grandma outcooks Collin Street Bakery!, January 18, 2005
This review is from: Grandmas Original Fruit and Nut Cake Ring (Misc.)
I love fruitcake. Let me rephrase that; I love DELICIOUS fruitcake! In my part of the country the most famous fruitcakes come from the Collin Street Bakery in Corsicana, Texas. They sell zillions of them all over the world and they are delicious. However, after sampling both Grandma's and Collin Street's fruitcake very closely and side by side during the recent Christmas holiday, I have to admit that Grandma's is the best. You see, great fruitcake must have 3 parts: 1- cake, 2- fruit & 3- nuts. The trick isn't getting the 3 parts in, but how much of each to use in the fruitcake's creation. Most fruitcakes are way too much cake and not enough fruit and nuts. Collin Street Bakery's fruitcakes have a little too much cake and a few too many nuts and therefore, not enough fruit. Grandma's fruitcake has everything JUST RIGHT! That is the secret. Before this past Christmas I would have said that nobody on this planet could make a better fruitcake than Collin Street Bakery. But now? Buy yourself a GRANDMA'S fruitcake and you'll probably start a new family tradition. From now on our family will be having a new holiday guest at our house. GRANDMA's FRUITCAKE will be invited to all of our special occasions. Yummmmmmmmmmmm. I just had another bite and yummmmmmmmmm. God bless. Mike

Tried many. This is the best., November 26, 2007
This review is from: Grandmas Original Fruit and Nut Cake Ring (Misc.)
I've tried many and made my own in my search for the perfect fruitcake, and Grandma's fruitcake is the best I have had.
1. It has fruit, not that horrid candied citrine.
2. The added liquors give the cake wonderful added flavor and doesn't overwhelm the fruits and nuts.
3. It is wonderfully moist.
If people say they don't like fruitcake, they have never tried a Grandma's fruitcake.

for lovers of "spirited" fruitcake, December 4, 2011
This review is from: Grandmas Original Fruit and Nut Cake Ring (Misc.)
Ah, fruitcake! One of the most misaligned of all incredible edibles--you either love it or you shudder at the very mention of the word "fruitcake". I come from a long line of fruitcake lovers, and my own grandmother made wonderful fruitcakes. Nothing will ever taste as good as those cakes, but then again, my Gran was "the greatest cook ever". She would make the cakes several weeks ahead of time, and then she kept them wrapped up in a tin in the pantry to properly "age". The aging process was aided and abetted by regular dousings with apple wine. These fruitcakes were deep, dark, and somewhat mysterious. Delicious! "Grandmas Original Fruit and Nut Cake Ring" definitely has a "spirited" flavor from the added bourbon, brandy, and rum. It's very fragrant! I ordered one for my Mom one year, and even though the cake was well-packaged, we could smell the rich aroma before we even opened the box. I ate only one slice, and then I let Mom enjoy the rest of the cake. She was content with the gift, and "if Mama's happy, then everybody's happy". This cake is a cut above the usual commercial fruitcake product, and if you enjoy cakes which have the added liquor flavor, then you will like this cake.
