I bought this book when it first came out in the 80's. My grandmother's life was always a mystery to my family. She never wanted to talk about it. This book helped her to realize that her life was important to us. The prompts were gentle and slowly she opened up to each question. Her story has helped us all to understand what she experienced. This book asks the gamit of geaneology questions and covers what we may not have thought about asking on our own. It has become the source for many a class project as our family trees are an ever famous topic through the various grade levels. This has been a way for my children to get to know their great grandmother and obtain the information from her first hand. It has made us realize the importance of obtaining one for each generation of the family.

I bought this book as a christmas present for my grandmother on my father's side. However, I ended up giving it to my grandmother on my mother's side because my father's parents are divorced. This book is something that my grandmother would have enjoyed, had it not had such a focus on her dating, engagement, marriage, ect. Questions like, "What did he say when he purposed?" and "What would Grandpa want to tell the grandchild?" could be very painful to recall and possibly unanswerable. It's a great gift for my OTHER grandmother, though. I wouldn't reccomend it for the non-traditional situation. Three stars because, I almost was unable to give it as a gift at all.

My grandmother was so very important to me. I gave her this book and she filled it out without me knowing. I found it the day she died. She wrote about her life, my grandfather, her parents, brothers, sisters and most importantly my dad who passed away four months before she did. I found out things I had not known and would never have known because of my daddy's early death and my grandmother's untimely death. I treasure this book and read it often. I feel as though Ma and Daddy are still with me. If you have a grandmother who is very important to you or you have a special grandchild this is the gift to give. It is wonderful! I am filling out "Mom Remembers" for my 11 week old daughter.

What a charming "do it yourself" story about my family, my thoughts and my memories. Judith Levy helped me to tell my story to my grandchildren in a pleasant and easy "complete this sentence" format.
Now, whenever a friend of mine becomes a first time grandma, I gift them with a copy of Grandmother Remembers.
this book is a winner!

I decided I wanted to give grandparent journals to the parents and in-laws for Christmas, and began reading the reviews for the many books. I have a rather comprehensive genealogy already done, so I wasn't too interested in getting the whole "family tree" aspect. Instead, I wanted insight into the person's childhood and adulthood, and perhaps some little personal nuggets that would really flesh them out for me, my kids, and generations to come.

At Any rate, I still couldn't figure out which one I wanted (sometimes those "look inside" things are just useless, showing copyright pages and blank sheets!), and of course the local book stores don't have all of them. I decided the only way I could decide which was right was to buy them all, look at them, and return the ones I didn't like as well. So, I bought Grandmother Remembers, A Grandparent's Legacy: Your Life Story in Your Own Words, A Grandparent's Book, The Grandmother Book: A Book About You for Your Grandchild, Grandparents Journal, and Memories for My Grandchild. I'm planning to review them all as I make my decision.

Grandmother Remembers is a hardcover book, with a regular (not spiral bound) binding. The paper is heavy weight, smooth finish.

My grandmother bought books for ever grandchild (and she had 11!) We all treasure our books, especially the pictures of our relatives who are now deceased.

This book can be the key to relating to your grandchild by sharing your recollections of days gone by, your hopes and dreams for the future and wonderful remembrances of the distant, and recent past. The "written heirloom" shared with my beloved granddaughter had to be tied with a ribbon to close, it was so "chock full" of words, mementos tucked in alongside clippings, photos, artwork and other tidbits of love I wanted to share with her...and a similar project is in the works for her envious older brother! It may take awhile, but every memory shared will be worth it. Consider this book an investment in joy that will keep blessing on through the years.
