5.0 out of 5 stars Priceless
I bought this book when it first came out in the 80's. My grandmother's life was always a mystery to my family. She never wanted to talk about it. This book helped her to realize that her life was important to us. The prompts were gentle and slowly she opened up to each question. Her story has helped us all to understand what she experienced. 3.0 out of 5 stars Suitable for more "traditional" grandmother, December 2, 2004
This review is from: Grandmother Remembers: A Written Heirloom for My Grandchild (Hardcover)
I bought this book as a christmas present for my grandmother on my father's side. However, I ended up giving it to my grandmother on my mother's side because my father's parents are divorced. This book is something that my grandmother would have enjoyed, had it not had such a focus on her dating, engagement, marriage, ect. Questions like, "What did he say when he purposed?" and "What would Grandpa want to tell the grandchild?" could be very painful to recall and possibly unanswerable. It's a great gift for my OTHER grandmother, though. I wouldn't reccomend it for the non-traditional situation. Three stars because, I almost was unable to give it as a gift at all.

This book helped her to realize that her life was important to us. The prompts were gentle and slowly she opened up to each question. Her story has helped us all to understand what she experienced. This book asks the gamit of geaneology questions and covers what we may not have thought about asking on our own. It has become the source for many a class project as our family trees are an ever famous topic through the various grade levels. This has been a way for my children to get to know their great grandmother and obtain the information from her first hand. It has made us realize the importance of obtaining one for each generation of the family.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Treasured Keepsake, January 1, 2001

My grandmother was so very important to me. I gave her this book and she filled it out without me knowing. I found it the day she died. She wrote about her life, my grandfather, her parents, brothers, sisters and most importantly my dad who passed away four months before she did. I found out things I had not known and would never have known because of my daddy's early death and my grandmother's untimely death. I treasure this book and read it often. I feel as though Ma and Daddy are still with me. If you have a grandmother who is very important to you or you have a special grandchild this is the gift to give. It is wonderful! I am filling out "Mom Remembers" for my 11 week old daughter.

What a charming "do it yourself" story about my family, my thoughts and my memories. Judith Levy helped me to tell my story to my grandchildren in a pleasant and easy "complete this sentence" format.

Now, whenever a friend of mine becomes a first time grandma, I gift them with a copy of Grandmother Remembers.

this book is a winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Grandmother Remembers-a written heirloom for my grandchild, January 22, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Grandmother Remembers: A Written Heirloom for My Grandchild (Hardcover)
This book can be the key to relating to your grandchild by sharing your recollections of days gone by, your hopes and dreams for the future and wonderful remembrances of the distant, and recent past. The "written heirloom" shared with my beloved granddaughter had to be tied with a ribbon to close, it was so "chock full" of words, mementos tucked in alongside clippings, photos, artwork and other tidbits of love I wanted to share with her...and a similar project is in the works for her envious older brother! It may take awhile, but every memory shared will be worth it. Consider this book an investment in joy that will keep blessing on through the years.

I bought this book in 1983 for my Grandma to fill out for me. Now that she has passed on, this book is a priceless, timeless gem, and a gift to me, as well as to my own children to pass down the stories, family tree, insight into the times when my Grandma was young, and is a great source of comfort for me.

If you are a Grandma, buy the book and give this gift to your grandchild. It will make so much of a difference. It is a treasure that keeps alive everything you loved, what happened during each stage of your life, and will be treasured by any grandchild who treasures you.
I HIGHLY Recommended this book for its timeless comfort and memories. It is a genuine gift in all regards.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Treasure!!!, June 13, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Grandmother Remembers: A Written Heirloom for My Grandchild (Hardcover)
My parents bought this book for my grandma when I was little. She filled it out and gave it to me when I turned 13, 2 years after my grandfather went home to the Lord. It is a treasure to me. I love reading through it and can't wait to show it to my daughter when she gets older. I am close to my grandma, but this book helped me learn so much more about her, my great-grandparents, and my grandpa. The part I love most is "What your grandfather would want you to know" -- he would want me to know that he was very proud of me. I still get teary-eyed even thinking about it.

Such a treasure!

1.0 out of 5 stars Sparce in Information, February 24, 2008
This review is from: Grandmother Remembers: A Written Heirloom for My Grandchild (Hardcover)
This was not at all what I expected. There were very few questions about grandmother's life, but several pages on the family tree, and her child's (the grandchild's parent) life. I expected more on what grandmother remembered about her own life.

This is the best possible gift that you could give your grandchild - very charming illustrations, with lots of room for pictures and your own comments and doodles - and just the right questions to elicit the story of your own life - this is the gift that all grandchildren should really want - the story of their grandmother told in her own words about what she was like as a girl, a teenager, a young woman - all those things that the pictures alone don't tell. It is not only a gift for your grandchild, but also for your son or daughter, who may not know these things about you. I gave this as a gift to other friends and family members who I knew would also want to share these thoughts and memories with a beloved grandchild. I just wish my grandmothers had given this gift to me.
