5.0 out of 5 stars I still pick it up every month...
I bought this amazing book when it was first published nearly 10 years ago and I still refer to it monthly. Z. Budapest has a wonderful "down to earth" (okay, pun intended!) writing style and she encourages readers to really celebrate each month and all that it means. A great gift for yourself or a friend new to women's spirituality.

3.0 out of 5 stars The grandmother of time
A very special book, that gives ideas for feasts and holidays through the year. Every month begins with a Goddess who tells the story of that month, and then the days of the month follow with feast for all kinds of Goddesses. The nice part of this book is that there are so many different feasts and Goddesses, everyone can find a Goddess of her liking here.
The only...

this book is a great guide to the days of the year, including profiles of 'holy days' from cultures around the world. the spells contained in it are really useful and apt, and easy to follow instructions. a must have book! if you're thinking of buying a book of Z's, buy this one first, then work your way backwards chronologically.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Journey, June 7, 1998

This book is wonderful for beginners and those "not so new" :) to Women's Spirituality and Goddess worship. Not only do you get to travel with the author, but at the same time you start to look back at your own past and how it has built your future. I refer to this book almost every month and find something new and beautiful. This is a must have for any tradition's library. Blessed Be!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must have for a newbie or experienced lad or lass, August 4, 2004
This review is from: The Grandmother of Time: A Woman's Book of Celebrations, Spells, and Sacred Objects for Every Month of the Year (Paperback)
This is the kind of book that speaks to you. From the descriptions of rituals and celebrations from across the world and a variety of pagan religions to the synposes of various deities. This book has so much detial and a terrific index.

This book was recommended to me by a female riend of mine, a felllow social worker and child welfare case manager. As a fan of Greek and Roman myth, this ook is what sparked the interest in me that, there were a plethora of goddesses out there that could and would listen if you only talked to them in the right manner.

Intriguing feminist updates of the goddesses are both societally relevant (Athena and Hera/Juno in particular. )

But the one strength of this book that stands out compared to all of her other books is the DETAILED index for the spells.
In the later books by Madame Z , the lack of an index makes it hard to find a spell on short notice unless you know where to look.

There is so much detail, and captivating autobiographical stuff that you just cannot put it down. It is not a male bashing book either. This is the knd fo book that shows the power and awe of the Female aspect of the God/ess.

Blessed be, this is a wonderful book and the cornerstone of my faith these last few years in the Craft and the Living greek Goddesses.

Brava Madame

5.0 out of 5 stars Time to Celebrate, December 19, 2007
This review is from: The Grandmother of Time: A Woman's Book of Celebrations, Spells, and Sacred Objects for Every Month of the Year (Paperback)
Invaluable guide to the turning year from the grandmother of womens' spirituality in the U.S. Includes several holidays from ancient traditions for every month of the year, and offers beautiful rituals that honor the earth. Simple rites that anyone can do alone or with friends. I've used mine so much it's falling apart, finding inspiration in the coldest winter, in the hottest summer, plus lots of little-known facts about the origin of holidays.

I have studied the wiccan path for a number of years on my own but only recently have been fortunate to have the guidance of an excellent teacher who recommended this book. I have enjoyed what this book has added to my teachings and to my everyday activities.

I adore any book by Witchcraft author Z. Budapest. The Grandmother of Time is my all time favorite. She discusses hwo she arrived in the U.S. from her native Hungary. Z. is a witch whose Hungarian ancestors have practiced the craft for centuries. In this book she mixes her own personal herstory with information on Goddesses of the globe. This is a truly loving and fascinating book.

We have been celebrating winter solstice for several years and I wanted to get more info about other "pagan" rituals - more for fun than for religious reasons. The book does not go into too much depth (more hearsay than actual research it seems), but is very helpful if you are looking for a reason to celebrate something new and find out about the sources of things.

It is not a book that you have to read cover to cover in that order but a seasonal book that gives you ideas to incorporate into your own personal practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Goddess is alive!, December 31, 2002
This review is from: The Grandmother of Time: A Woman's Book of Celebrations, Spells, and Sacred Objects for Every Month of the Year (Paperback)
This is a wonderful book on the Goddesses. You can tell by all of her books how she is so devoted to the Goddess. In this book you will find that the chapters are devoted to each month. She has rituals and spells, and dates of celebrations for the many goddesses of diffrent lands. This is good for anyone who is in love with the Goddess. She gives information of diffrent goddesses. She has some real lovley illustrations as well in this book. I have this book for many years now and I still find it very useful.
