Book Description

July 2001
There is no one else like a grandmother. Grandmas hold a superlative place in the family. They have something to give a grandchild that is entirely different from what a parent gives. And this book of gentle, playful stories—all written about grandmothers or by grandmothers—offers a rich taste of what that wonderful “something” is. Within the pages of this volume, readers will find a collection of tender, touching true stories, poems, and reflections that celebrate a grandmother’s unique influence, written by those fortunate enough to experience firsthand the power and blessing of a grandmother’s love.

I never had a living grandmother when I was a child so I was especially intrigued and inspired by these heart-warming stories. They made me newly aware of my role as a grandmother in the lives of my precious grandchildren.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to rekindle warm memories of their grandmothers or be reminded of their importance to their grandchildren.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift for those Grams, October 26, 2001
By
This review is from: A Grandmother's Touch: Heart-Warming Stories of Love Across Generations (Paperback)
When I picked up this book and began reading I thought I would be most touched by stories grandchildren wrote about their grandmothers. Afterall, my own grandmothers have been such important people to me and appear in my earliest, most important memories. I discovered many stories by grandchildren that mirrored my own experience and made me smile, pause, and want to pick up the phone to say (again) "Thanks Gram - you're the best!" But the most powerful, touching and thought-provoking stories in this book were written by grandmothers themselves. I never thought about the role of grandmother from any perspective other than my own as "receiver/beneficiary". To read these womens' thoughts, dreams, disappointments and struggles made me see that being a grandparent is like being a good parent: it takes time, interest, energy, and courage. While I could not connect with each and every story in the book, I enjoyed reading each one and recommend it as a must read for the whole family.
