Simply outstanding!,

This is a truly unique and wonderful book for children (and adults). Besides the amazing paintings and accurate depiction of the beauty of St. Lucia, the book deals so gracefully with some pretty heavy topics: ecological dilemmas, religion, and the bonds of grandparents. We have what seems like thousands of children's literature in our house; I have two kids, 9 and 5. I am an elementary school teacher of thirteen years, and this really is my favorite kids book. A no-brainer for concientious parents.

My Grandpa and the Sea is a short picture book, but it has enough meaning and emotion to be enjoyed by people of all ages. I use it at the start of the year to stimulate thought for writing in an eighth-grade class. In addition to having good character development and plot, it has excellent word choice and imagery, making it a book that my eighth graders can learn from in many ways. It is also a favorite of my own six-year-old and eleven-year-old girls as they love the language, story, and pictures. I highly recommend it for anyone who has children or grandchildren.
