5.0 out of 5 stars Works wonders for skin conditions, the smell is not that bad
The soap smells pretty good if your idea of "pretty good smells" includes "lumber yard". But this stuff is fantastic for a variety of skin conditions, my dermatologist recommends it. You do get used to the odor after a bit, and once you've used it the lingering scent is not bad enough to freak out your co workers or cause false bomb alerts at airports. Leaves your skin...

3.0 out of 5 stars Seems to work pretty good, smells like a campfire!
I got this product to help with my chronic hives. It seems to calm down the itching for a little while, and the soap is non-irritating and very mosturizing. It does, however, smell just like a campfire, not joking. Which is odd. However, once you wash it off, you don't notice it. I wouldn't call it a miracle soap, but a good natural soap.

5.0 out of 5 stars You just have to try it!, March 28, 2007
By

This review is from: Grandpa Soap Pine Tar 4.25 Ounces (Misc.)
I first began using Pine Tar soap as a medic in Vietnam to treat all kinds of skin conditions. It just seemed to work like magic on everything from rashes to eczemas to itchy scalp.

Then, it seemed to disappear from the shelves and I thought they had stopped making it. However, every now and then I would find an old drugstore somewhere that carried a few bars and I bought whatever they had. Now I see that Amazon carries it and at a great price too.

If you suffer from any kind of skin condition, you should try one bar. Some people complain about the smell but personally I like the smell. It has a woody odor and even that disappears within an hour.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Against Fungus, December 15, 2008

I'll spare the details, but I'd been having a deep lower fungus condition for months, a maddening, burning, itching, raw, seeping and generally disgusting misery that nothing seemed to help. Powders, cremes, salt baths, I tried it all to no avail. Then I remembered a scalp and ear condition my son had years ago that we used pine tar shampoo on -- we called it "Burned Wood Juice" because of the scent -- that seemed to clear it up. I bought it in bar form, and two weeks later all the aforementioned symptoms had diminished significantly, and I expect them to be gone in the coming month. I'm so glad I remembered this stuff, just wish I'd thought of it earlier before my summer was ruined.

I'd do a commercial for pine tar soap or shampoo in a heartbeat. I don't know how it does it, but it really fights fungus infections like nothing else I've ever tried. And I find the scent very agreeable, makes my bathroom smell like a forest. I'll be stocking up, as my skin is prone to breakouts, and I can't seem to find the soap in any retail stores, even here in L.A. At less than half the cost (at least here online) of other products that claim to work, but don't, pine tar seems to qualify as one of those Best Kept Secrets. Highly recommended for skin conditions most of us would rather not talk about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased, September 27, 2007
I am very pleased with this soap. I used it many years ago, as a teenager and it seemed to reduce acne. Now, as a middle-aged very fair skinned person I have started using it again to clean and moisturize in one step, and it seems to reduce some skin problems I have.(Even the dermatologist noticed.) As a guy I really don't like scented soaps but this one smells fine to me, and the mosquitoes don't seem to like it much (jes fine by me!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Best bar soap ever., December 19, 2007
By
I have been using Grandpa's Pine Tar soap for years, after one use I was in love. I know the scent is STRONG, but I really like it. Some people think it smells bad, but that's just because we are used to our skin-care and everything else smelling like tropical fruits or cucumbers or flowers. This soap smells real. And I love it. My skin loves too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Old remedies beat big pharma any day!, June 30, 2008
This stuff is terrific! It is suitable for not only bathing but shaving and shampooing as well. Lathers rich. Leaves skin and hair squeaky clean
with no oil residue.
I have an unidentified skin problem where my skin blotches red, itches,
and contains a slight fever. This soap hasn't completely eradicated the
problem but has certainly minimized it.
I love the smell. Some people don't. It smells like fresh creosote,
the stuff they used to treat telephone poles with to retard decay in the
wood. Don't buy it thinking it's going to smell like Pine-Sol or one of
those dinky hang-ups you put on the rear view mirror of your car.
It's much finer than that.
I'm going to buy more. I never want to be without it again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Mens Soap, September 13, 2005

Grandpa's has been around since 1876 and some things I guess are just too good to change. This is a soap that gets you clean without all the perfumes you find in todays soaps. It even makes a great shampoo. Try a bar and you will never settle for any other soap in the shower.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, but smells like death, September 9, 2011

I got diagnosed with PUPPPS during my pregnancy which is a very itchy rash comparable to poison ivy. It was spreading at a very fast rate and there is nothing you can do to stop the spreading. I was recommended Grandpas Pine Tar Soap by my OBGYN and thought I would give it a try since I wanted a natural remedy intead of taking medicine while pregnant. I ordered the soap and when I got it in the mail I was shocked how bad it smelled. It made me want to throw up. I set it down and couldnt even go near it for about a day. I just couldnt imagine rubbing that awful smell all over me.

My husband compared it to a dead deer smell. The rash was getting worse so I thought, oh well, and gave it a shot. I held my breath during my shower and lathered up. After a couple days my rash stopped spreading and cleared up! Although it smells like death I can honestly say it worked and would recommend to anyone suffering from any sort of itchy rash!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't know how I lived without it!, January 19, 2007
By
This soap is fantastic. I have sensitive but acne prone skin, there was no cleanser out there that I could find that I did not react to. Expensive to cheap I tried them all and they either made me break out worse or turned my skin into a red peeling mess. Then a close friend said that they knew someone who had tried this type of soap and had great results, I was hesitant because it does have a different smell (the liquid soap is has a much stonger scent than the bar soap)but after seeing what it does for my skin I didn't care. The smell does not stay on your skin, you only smell fresh and clean after bathing with it. My boyfriend can't stand the smell, but I don't think it is that bad and I wouldn't give it up for the world! I use Grandpa's pine tar soap every day and am so happy to have found it:) If you want to try it out you can order little sample size bars from the Granpa Brands Website and probably from here on Amazon as well, if you have problem skin you only need to read the reviews on the company website to see how many people it has helped!
