When being a responsible grandparent becomes a mine field...,
By Sally Schenck (Palm Harbor, Florida USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Grandparents' Rights: What Every Grandparent Needs to Know (Paperback)
Through case studies the author describes the emotional, and frustrating, roles grandparents assume in efforts to hold the fragile bonds of family together during crises of divorce, parental neglect and drug abuse. Since Dr. Slorah actively participated in testimony before State and Federal legislators in formulating protective laws for grandparents, she offers practical advice to grandparents handling heart-wrenching alienation within broken families. Highly recommended.

This book reminds us that even in the most loving and secure families, unimagined circumstances can arise that leave you reeling, not knowing how to proceed.Dr. Slorah provides us with anecdotal reassurance that we are not alone, should we find ourselves in this terribly difficult situation, and a resourse guide on what needs to be done to ameliorate it. This is one book that we all hope we'll never need but is invaluable if it is needed by us or a friend!

As an Adoptive Parent,
By Todd Nelson (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Grandparents' Rights: What Every Grandparent Needs to Know (Paperback)
As the father of two adopted children I'm very sensitive to the loss or potential loss of a child. Having gone through the adoption system I've attempted to pass along my understanding of that process so when I read "Grandparents' Rights" I was thrilled by Dr. Slorahs' step-by-step methodology which guided me through the process of understanding Grandparents rights, as well as non-custodial parents rights. How wonderful to have such a practical handbook that gives you direction, guidance and sensible answers in dealing with very sensitive and challenging interpersonal relationships. Todd Nelson

Grandparents really do have rights,
By A Customer
This review is from: Grandparents' Rights: What Every Grandparent Needs to Know (Paperback)
This is a must read for all grandparents - they really do have rights - one of the hardest things in the world is for a grandparent to be cut off from his or her grandchildren simply because of family discord - this book will bring encouragement and hope to thousands upon thousands of grandparents who have been suffering in ignorance - now, they have the opportunity to know exactly what they can do to re-gain those prescious visits with their grandchildren.

I now feel that if and when something should ever happen to break apart my family unit that I will have a professional resource in this book. Writer's Agenda,
By
This review is from: Grandparents' Rights: What Every Grandparent Needs to Know (Paperback)
This book, while well written, just pushes an agenda.
I think it is asinine that we, as grandparents, feel we have the right to these children. We do not. Can you imagine your parents or in-laws suing for time with their grandchildren if, for whatever you reason, you had cut them out? I truthfully find this book laughable. Instead of learning how to legally gain custody or time allowance with our grandchildren how about we work on being good parents and in laws to our children/inlaws and then when disaster strikes they will want us around. My ex daughter in law relies on me more than on her own family because of the relationship that I have built with her. I see my grandchildren whenever they want to come over (they live a mile from us and are old enough to come over) and whenever they have time to make family dinners. I have this relationship because I respect the boundaries of my ex DIL as a parent. That is how you get time with your grandchildren. Seriously. Do you think if you have to go through legal means to see your grandchild the parent won't say awful things about you when you aren't there? By taking away a parents rights you are hurting yourself more than helping.

This review is from: Grandparents' Rights: What Every Grandparent Needs to Know (Paperback)
This is a one-of-a-kind book that offers a wealth of information concerning the legal rights of grandparents. I remember seeing the author on "The Today Show" discussing some of the issues detailed in this book.
