4.0 out of 5 stars After one month of use every night
I use this lamp as a reading light on my bed. I needed something that would direct the light just to my book (actually a Kindle 3) and not spread the light widely. I do not want to disturb my husband's sleep just because I want to read. The "black plastic baffle" does this quite nicely. The shade is deep enough that the bulb is well recessed into the lamp. I use a GE Red...

3.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
It's cheap, in every sense of the word. The neck doesn't really stay where you position it, which is problematic. Nothing really terrible about this product; its just a sub-par clip lamp. At least it's cheap.

I use a GE Red 25 watt "Party Bulb" and do not have any problems with overheating. The red light is a favorite with astronomers and sonar techs because it doesn't effect night vision like white light does. I'm sure my neighbors notice the red glow around my window shades but haven't said anything yet...

The clip is strong and well padded. I have it clipped to a 1 inch thick headboard and it does not not slip or move when I reposition the lamp. The neck holds the position well.

I deducted one star because the turn off switch is so loud. So far my husband hasn't noticed but I worry each time I turn it off. It makes a loud "pop" sound in a quiet room.

1.0 out of 5 stars Large design flaw, February 5, 2011

I turned this lamp on and off about 2x/ day for about 3-4 weeks. However, to turn on and off, you turn the switch clockwise. Well the way this lamp is designed, the switch you use to turn it on, it kind of like screwing a screw into a piece of wood. After you do it a certain number of times, it hits the end. And then it won't turn anymore, so you are either stuck with it off or on.

You can mess with it for a minute or two to get it to turn on or off, by turning the switch counterclockwise. But after manipulating the switch like that for about 3-4 days, it just stops working completely. Now, I have it stuck in the "on" position, and I turn it on and off by plugging it in or unplugging it.

I would definitely not recommend this lamp. Spend a little more money, and get something that will last.

What happened to the better quality of these kinds of clip-on 60watt lamps just 6 months ago? The cord on this lamp is way too short. As are all of them now at all the office supply stores as well. Also, if you handle the outside of the shade, you'll burn your fingers. It gets way too hot to the touch. One should be able to position where you want the light to shine (hence the bendable neck), however, after it's only been on 20 minutes, it'll burn the hand that tries to move it! It's very hot even with just a 60watt bulb that it uses, and by which it emits super great light for its size. I ordered these because I had gotten 8 of these type of clip-on lamps from Office Depot a year or so ago (a bit bigger) so they would throw out more light than the minis. I've loved them every day. They were $12. Could someone please bring us back that $12 60watt clip-on light? I'd pay $2 more so I don't burn myself and have a longer cord.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great light, low cost, sturdy construction., December 18, 2011

It's a strong versatile lamp. I have it clamped to an old pole lamp which is quite thick, but the jaws opened up wide enough to hold on, and it's been there for about a week now without falling. As I had hoped, it applies just the right amount of light with the florescent bulb I put in it, and replaces the old energy hungry quartz lamp it is attached too.

I recommend this unit to anybody who needs a simple source of light that can be mounted nearly everywhere.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good lamp for the price, December 5, 2010

Bought this lamp to clip onto a shelf over my desk. It is compact and the clamp is strong enough to hold it in place. Nice design and the cord is long enough to reach the plug several feet away. The only complaint is that the switch is very flimsy and the light can flicker on by moving it around slightly. It is a simple design though so it can be replaced with parts from the local hardware if needed. I'd buy another one.

This light broke right away... after using it maybe 7-10 times the switch broke and it no longer works. Plus it gets VERY hot... there are other better choices!
