I've owned this lamp for only six months and just tossed it out, unfortunately. When I received it, it was apparent that the manufacturing process was pretty low-cost - the edges weren't finished nicely and it didn't move as smoothly as more expensive lamps. Still, I realized that the price was much less than Luxo lamps and I was happy to have the savings. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for. For the last month, I have fought with the on/off switch, having to use pliers to turn it on and off as the switch got tighter and tighter. Finally, a few days ago, it started flickering when I would turn it on. Yesterday, it took its last flicker and went off completely.

Looking through both Amazon's site and the manufacturer's site, I could not find a way to contact anyone about the problem, so I'm taking my lumps and just threw the lamp away. The saddest thing is that I had previously had a Luxo architects's lamp that I'd bought in 1975 and it lasted until 2009. Don't waste your money on this cheap imitation!!

The light it self is everything you want it to be. Works great. I was disappointed with the cost. Especially when I got a catalog showing the same light for almost $40 dollars cheaper. Shop around, it is a very good light. It fit my needs to a "T"

The lamp is of good quality, but the clamp/bracket (as others have mentioned) is sub-par. Yes, the bolt's a bit undersized and the hole for the lamp base is too large. For my purposes, the biggest issue is the lack of a 90deg position for use on desks and shelving with vertical boards for clamping. We had to cannibalize the clamp from my 20-year-old swing lamp to install this new lamp.

I own several of these and they don't hold up very well. The lamp head snapped off on one and the power switch broke on another. These are too expensive for this shoddy quality.

I recently purchased this lamp for my Mom when I was remodeling her craft room for her. I required a light source that could clamp onto a table or work area and this fit the bill. It's very agile and movable so that my Mom can move it around to see what she needs to at her sewing cabinet and also at her big craft table. It's no problem to install. You literally turn a knob to clamp it onto a work surface and unscrew the knob to remove it. I use a 100 watt long-lasting bulb which gives plenty of light for my purposes but you could put other bulbs in it. I wouldn't recommend it for halogen bulbs because it's usually close to you and halogen would end up getting hot or possibly burning you.
