A true masterpiece., September 25, 2005
This review is from: Les Grands Classiques de Lino Ventura (Original French ONLY Version - No English Options) (DVD)
First of all, I have to admit I don't review this DVD set for Lino Ventura, I'm not a particular fan of his. I wanted to review this set because in it you can find the masterpiece GARDE A VUE and it seems that in the U.S. that's the only way you can purchase it.
That's a fantastic film. They made a remake in Hollywood a few years ago with Gene Hackman and Morgan Freeman but it wasn't really a success.
I live in France so I know this film for a long time. It's a classic and it often runs on TV.
Frankly, I have to say that Lino Ventura hasn't the best part in this film even if he shows here he was a really good actor. Michel Serrault plays the best part. The part of the man who is accused of murdering a child. He's really great because once you think he's guilty, you realize he must be innocent and then he says another thing and once again you begin to think he must be guilty. It's like a play because it happens in a police station and that's why the actors here are really great, they only create the tension and the suspense.
That's a real classic movie of the French Cinema from the last 25 years.

French Classics, April 5, 2007

Very good value for money as "Adieu Poulet" is (strangely) unavailable on DVD in France. "Garde A Vue" is a French classic & a great movie too.
