We have seven cats that were happy when we bought a new couch and love seat - for them to destroy. Even though we have several cat scratchers, they chose the new furniture. Now I don't have to cover them up when I leave home and I can enjoy looking at our furniture. I sprayed all around the bottom and up the sides of both and now no more scratching! I will NEVER be without this wonderful product. I wish it came in gallon jugs. It doesn't smell like apples and I didn't notice any fragrance...but the cats did!

This has worked like a charm for the two retriever puppies we've had. It doesn't stain or have much of an odor (to humans), but has worked very well to stop chewing on household surfaces. It seems to wear off of fabrics in a couple of days, but lasts longer on smooth surfaces.

The spray doesn't work well on hands or clothing at our house. Also, several friends have reported that their older dogs actually appear to like the taste, so it obviously doesn't work for every dog. I suspect it works best for stopping a puppy chewing habit from forming rather than breaking a well-established habit, but it's inexpensive enough to seem worth trying even in those situations.

my aussie puppy was play biting REALLY hard, leaving scratches and bruises on my arms and ankles... she even drew blood on my face. i tried every method i could find including redirecting to a toy, or using praise when she stopped, or holding her mouth closed and saying "no bite".

at her check up i told the vet it was getting to be a real problem. he suggested that i buy this spray and give her one "no bite" warning and then spray it directly in her mouth. i only had to do this about 4 times. she has pretty much stopped biting now, but if she forgets in the middle of play all i have to say is "no bite" and she stops.

as for people who say that it's "abusive" to spray it in the dogs mouth, i will say that our vet suggested it and it certainly didn't seem to traumatize her. she made an unpleasant face and tried to spit it out for a minute, and that was about it. out of curiosity i sprayed it (yes, a full spray) in my own mouth. it's gross but not going to do any permanent damage.

since then i've put it on shoes and couch cushions and wires.. she instantly stays away from all of them.

it was a total miracle for us

This product is great, I recommended it to anyone that is having a problem with their pet biting & chewing. From the time I received the spray my dog hated it & within a week she stopped biting. Good Luck!

This product works really great and doesn't seem to stain or anything. Our Cockapoo puppy is in her chewing phase and we were having all kinds of problems with her chewing things. So we bought this and it works well. She sometimes even makes this cute little whine when we spray things complaining that we're taking her fun away.

I've found that for things like leashes and shoes that rub against other things all day this wears off quickly and you need to spray them every 2-4 days, but for things like cords, cables and the bottoms of chairs I haven't had to respray as the only thing rubbing against them and wearing off the spray is the puppy who's no longer doing so.

I used this on my 5 Year old shi-tzu when he was a puppy and it seemed to work well, I had some left in the cabinet, I found some flea bites on him (Which is a whole other issue within itself!) however this spray brought immediate relief to his hot spots and itching all the other sprays did nothing, just thought I share this happy accident

Dogs learn by association. To make certain that the dog will not go near items sprayed with Bitter Apple or other products like this, first make the dog taste it. SHAKE WELL BEFORE EACH APPLICATION. Then open your dog's mouth wide and spray one shot into the back of the mouth aiming for the back of the tongue. One squirt should do it. If the dog shakes; spits or licks rapidly then this product will work for you. If not, try a different product. Once you see that the dog does not like the taste, spray a little on your hand and let him/her smell it. If she/he pulls away from your hand you should be good to go. NOW - depending on what type of surface you are spraying to keep the dog/puppy away, you may have to reapply daily. Anything outside the house has to be sprayed daily. Inside, if it's a slightly absorbant surface like wicker, pillows, towels, socks, some shoes, you can apply every other day. For hard surfaces like finished wood, athletic shoes, reapply daily. FYI - this is a good price on Amazon. Also, if your dog persists on finding new things to chew, you may need to start some in-home dog training. Puppies usually outgrow this phase by 6 - 9 months. Good chews to help them are bully sticks, stuffed Kong Toys, heavy duty rope toys, etc. Don't put up with this for long - get help early and save your house and backyard.

The good about this is that my older dog stopped chewing the end of the coffee table after we sprayed it. It also kept him off the bed. There was never any problem with staining or anything. For my younger dog however, she took a few sniffs and actually licked it. I even sprayed it near her and she jumped back but then smelled it and licked it off. I don't know why. I suggest you might want to purchase the smaller 8oz. until you know how your dog will react.
