This review is from: Granny's Dragon (Hardcover)
I'm a pretty recent fan of Lisa McCourt (and Cd Moore's amazingly illustrations) and I must say I am quite pleased with this latest book and I hope my upcoming crop of 1st graders feels the same way. Realistically, I would aim this toward the kindergarten crowd. Whomever appreciates, it truly is another well-done piece and the illustrations are just gorgeous.
The subject is the tradition of bedtime and the fear thereof. A little girl's excuse is one of those pesky monsters that tend to leap out and attack poor young slumberers. Though Granny has many logical defenses against said monsters, the ultimate weapon is a magical dragon conveniently at call. "Granny's Dragon" should be excellent fodder for bedtime story choice, being a whimsical tale with equally enchanting pictures. I like the progression of the tale and its plans for combatting the monster, as well as the inside joke of bedtime rituals. Adorable and something else of which McCourt should be proud. |
