Editorial Reviews

Review

“Seventy-six of the best tried-and-true homemade recipes from a bygone era.” ~Atlanta Journal Constitution

“A little of the old, a little of the new, the book is full of simple, comforting, and easy-to-make cakes, breakfasts, dinners, and desserts, as well as Gran’s secrets to award-winning baking and preserving.” ~Cookbook Digest

"...the type of ode we'd pay to our grandma if we were writing a cookbook....a book overflowing with colorful photographs of food and family. There are quick fries, sweets, savory pies, pasties, quick breads and more. Instructions are simple and straightforward, the ingredient are in weights and not measures (grams and ounces versus cups). The variety and simplicity of the recipes would make this a perfect gift for a mom who wants to share with a young daughter the joys of baking and cooking." ~McClatchy Tribune

This book is amazing. If you enjoy cookbooks with a history this one is for you. I absoloutely love this book. I can't wait to make the breads and sweets and main course dinners in this wonderful book. The book itself is beautiful and worth every penny. Simply put together with love and stories that will warm your heart, beautiful pictures of almost every recipe and you'll feel as though you knew Miss Dulcie May Booker as she makes you feel like
family. I highly recommend this book.

There are few savory dishes. Mostly cakes, cookies and puddings. Strangely, for the cake recipes, they omit the size of the cake pan required for baking. I sent an email to the author via her website, to ask for her suggestions, and received no answer at all.

It is a nice book written with affection for her Grandmother.

Brought the book after seeing it on master chef. Yet to take any of the recipes for a test drive but that will happen, certainly plenty of kiwi traditions in here, I remember many of these being served by my own grandmother over the years. The only disappointment in the kindle version is the sponge recipe, which appears to lack the measurement of a key ingredient from the list, but I'm sure a little research will enable me to work that one out. Lovely book with sweet reminesence of times gone by (it was the mans job to wring the chickens neck and the women's to pluck and gut it).... How times have changed.
