5.0 out of 5 stars Father Goose is Cary Grant at his best!, December 13, 1999
Father Goose is a lot of fun and is arguably Cary Grant's funniest and finest film.

Yes, he was great in Charade, North by Northwest, Notorious, etc -- but here his honed skills and comedic timing pay off in his funniest film and is well worth seeing. You don't have to be a Cary Grant fan to enjoy this film -- but after seeing it, you will be. FG was niominated for Best Picture (Musical/Comedy) by the Golden Globe and won an Oscars for Best Writing, Story and Screenplay - Written Directly for the Screen in 1965. The cast, production, direction, photography, story -- all are top notch.

The film looks great on DVD -- albeit mysteriously truncated from to 2.35 to 1.85. The compositions still look good but the full scope imagery of the South Pacific adds greatly to the visual impact of this film and deserves to be shown.

That Touch of Mink is presented in its proper 2.35 aspect ratio. This is a much different film. As Matlin put it, this is silly fluff -- but good fluff. Upper-Sandusky wholesome Doris meets New York sophisticated Cary. Pretty good but both actors did much better in other films.

Included with both films are brief bios and filmographies of the priniciples. TTOM includes a trailer. That's all. No further extras. Neither mono film is 16x9 enhanced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great twin Pack, May 26, 2000
By Mark A Jamison (Bentonville, AR United States) - See all my reviews
ALthough I will be honest enough to say that I would have paid the same amount just for Father Goose. There are not a whole lot of Bells and whistles which you normally associate with a DVD, but the transfer was clean, so you have a nice version of the two.

Father Goose is possibly Cary Grant's best role, if only because this is not a typical Cary Grant type of Character. The story, that of a Itenerant Beach bumb who gets dragooned into service during WW II is absolutely priceless.

I Can reccommend this twinpack just for Father Goose

1.0 out of 5 stars Clarification of previous review, May 14, 2000
By Martin Knight (Hong Kong) - See all my reviews
Note that in my previous review, in which I commented on the dreadful DVD transfer, I was only referring to the "That Touch of Mink" DVD. The Father Goose DVD is not that bad.
