This guide teaches students and professionals a systematic process for researching, designing, writing, and submitting successful grant-seeking proposals.
Focusing on proposals submitted for government, foundation, and corporation funding, Grant Seeking in an Electronic Age leads the reader through a six-step grant-seeking process, from researching potential funders, to designing, writing and submitting a proposal that follows the funder's guidelines. Grounded in theory, but rooted in successful practice, it teaches students what really works–a third of students who submit proposals based on this text's approach get funded within a year. The text's guided discovery process provides a useful framework for novice writers while its thinking-planning exercises offer useful ways of organizing information and discovering what still need to be researched.

I am using Grant Seeking in an Electronic Age in a graduate writing course for education leaders. I have reviewed a lot of proposal writing books for this class and chose this one because it takes a strategic approach and is based on sound rhetorical principles. The book is logically structured around the process of managing change, which proposal writing is largely about. Not only does it spell out how to identify needs, propose solutions, and find funding for those solutions, but the book also introduces the rhetorical principles that underlie the various communication tasks involved in proposal writing. Each step in the proposal writing process is illustrated with annotated examples that explain why certain rhetorical strategies were effective in a particular case and how they were used.
The authors also have an excellent track record of winning millions of dollars in grants, which adds credibility to their rhetorical approach.
In addition to making an excellent textbook in a proposal writing course, the book is also an indispensable resource for individuals and nonprofits interested in writing proposals to obtain funding.

Although the book has useful information, I returned it due to the horrible layout. The graphs, charts, and other illustrations look like they are from a xerox in the 90s. For the price, I expect more quality.

It is a good book for the basics, bought since it was required for a class... Really seemed over priced for the style of book, but good info for those starting the grant process...
