5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING INFORMATION!
I've been writing grants on my own for a few years with a very high success rate. I bought this book because I am about to embark on writing some large requests for foundation and federal funding. I was hoping to learn a few more tips from an expert. Boy did I get my money's worth! I wish I would have read this book before I wrote my first grant! There are tons of...

3.0 out of 5 stars Grant writing for dummies....as a reference
This is a good starter book, but it does not provide quality resources for you to practice the skills gained. You should build your skills with quality templates, references, wording techniques. I would caution readers to move on to a good intermediate work like Government Funding and You. This book will provide you with the skills to put together a quality grant with the...

I was hoping to learn a few more tips from an expert. Boy did I get my money's worth! I wish I would have read this book before I wrote my first grant! There are tons of tips. The book is well written in a smart format that makes it quick and easy to read. I'll definitely use it for a reference text for years to come. Thanks Beverly Browning!

5.0 out of 5 stars clear, precise and easy to use, October 18, 2002
I was struggling through a master's level grant writing course and hitting snag after snag in my own grant writing project. The text books for the course provided contradictory and confusing information that on the whole did not apply to the actual process of grant writing. I gave up and purchased Grant Writing for Dummie. I only wish I had gotten this book earlier. The book is well organized and walks you through the often convoluted process of researching, writing and submitting grant proposals. I appreciated the clear writing and colorful examples of how to phrase and document a grant proposal. I recommended the book to the professor but he was less than enthusiastic about the idea of replacing the standard class textbooks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Non-Profit Handbook for Excellence, July 26, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
When approached to provide grant writing services, I thought I couldn't do it, then I found this book.

After purchasing, I picked a day to study this book completely and found it wasn't needed. The best feature is the easy reference format, I could simply flip to what I needed and work from there.

The web site listings, foundation break-downs and overall content got me on the right track.

This book will be helpful only if you are seeking a grant for a non-profit. I searched elsewhere for information on sponsorships and other available funding.

What is offered are the absolute basics for getting started on grant writing. Companies will not give your paper or proposal a second glance if you don't take the time to research their specific guidelines.

Buy this book, do your homework and you just might get that grant. It's a far better investment than the internet rip-offs for thirty of more dollars that claim to tell you how to get a grant.

From experience, I'll tell you now, there are no guarantees, each company decides, and this book will be a foot in the door.

Phenomenal! It is obvious that the author has many years of experience in the field. This book hits the mark if you want to become a grant writer,or more successful one.It takes you step-by-step in writing any kind of grant proposal. It is concisely written to help you put that grant application together. How to rate your organization. Write different proposals to different funders. Where to look for funding. How to stay on top of funding news. What to do after you receive funding. What to do if you don't get the money. I'm telling you this book tells you everything you need to know. I have read it over and over again like it were a novel. It is like the author is right there with you. I might have been a dummy before I read the book. I am no more. I am no longer intimidated. I have confidence now.I am a grant writer! Thank you Bev Browning.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Helpful Guide to Writing Winning Grants!, April 18, 2001

One of the very best books I have seen on the ins and outs of writing winning grant proposals. Not just the usual information about the components of a typical application, but a comprehensive approach to obtaining grant funds including planning, researching, developing, writing and coordinating the whole grant process. Ms. Browning even includes important post-grant activities such as following up once the grant has been submitted. I found this guide priceless.

As a long-time community volunteer who's served on over 25 nonprofit boards, I found myself wanting to learn more about grantwriting. Bev Browning's Grant Writing For Dummies really fit the bill! Not only is the book informative reading material, I found it to also be very entertaining. I highlighted numerous passages throughout the book; the book is going on my reference shelf, because I know it will be referred to over and over. Thank you, Bev Browning, for writing this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you are not non-profit, DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!, July 19, 2002
By A Customer
Nowhere on the front or back cover does it say this book is about getting grants for not-for-profit agencies only. You have to read 3+ pages of the book until it says so.

I returned the book. The little I did read seemed comprehendable and well written.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Written Explanation of the Unwritten Rules, July 20, 2005
Writing a grant is easy. Writing a winning grant is not. Like any other form of specialized literature, you want your grant request to look like it's professionally done. That is, you want it to look like the rest of the stack of requests that the granting organization has in front of them. Then inside the request you have to include something that makes it so outstanding that you will get past the first reading and each subsequent review until that magic moment when you get the check.

The keys to doing this are well known and established, IF you've been in the grant writing/reading business. These rules are often simple, i.e. don't request from Handgun Control, Inc. for money to build a shooting range. What you need is a simple, step-by-step guide to the rules, and here it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awarded $250,000 Federal grant because of this book!, August 25, 2006

I AM "Alliswell" (washington, dc United States) - See all my reviews
I was working at a NON-PROFIT organization and the departing Executive Director refused to submit a renewed grant request to a Federal agency. I was tasked to do it instead within one week. I had no support of the staff or Board of Directors because they did not have a clue of the process. I had never written a grant. So, I purchased this book and read it over the weekend. It was easy to read and made sense. I simply followed the book...identified a problem/an unmet need and a way to solve it. Thank you! The agency was awarded $250,000 to fund two of the full-time employees over a 2 year period.
