About the Author

Though her successful career as a lawyer and educator might be Chris Taylor s most impressive professional credential, it was her volunteer work for the public school system that led to her most personally rewarding vocation as grant writer, author and public speaker. After graduating from law school, Taylor worked as the chief attorney at the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission and as a private practitioner in her native state of Oklahoma. In 1983, she moved to Tennessee and taught legal research and writing and appellate advocacy law classes at the Memphis State University Humphreys College of Law, while also working as an attorney for the Memphis Area Legal Services where she represented low-income clients in civil rights matters. From there, she became a director for the Tennessee Department of Employment Security in Nashville before accepting a position to head the Paralegal Studies Program at Volunteer State Community College. In 2001, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where her volunteer work with schools began. Shocked when she discovered how much teachers spend out of their own pockets to help with classroom expenses, Taylor felt compelled to use her experience to help educators get more funding for class projects. Writing grants for schools perfectly combined her professional background with her desire to help the educational community. In addition to grant writing, she organized read-a-thons and book fairs for elementary schools and taught high school students about various aspects of law. While formally recognized by schools for her volunteerism, Taylor desired a way to help more than just the handful of schools she had time to assist on a one-on-one basis. No sooner did she put that heartfelt wish out to the universe when she was contacted by Five Star Publications to write GRANTED!: A Teacher s Guide to Writing and Winning Classroom Grants and conduct GRANTED! workshops. In addition to GRANTED!, Taylor is a published poet and has written legal materials, such as a handbook to assist legal aid clients in understanding their rights. She lives in Arizona with her husband, two children, three dogs and numerous fish.

5.0 out of 5 stars "PROFESSIONAL, IMPRESSIVE AND EDUCATIONAL!", October 14, 2009
This review is from: Granted: A Teacher's Guide to Writing & Winning Classroom Grants (Paperback)
Author Chris Taylor is a lawyer, educator, and school advocate. She shares over twenty years of experience
to simplify the application process for novice grant seekers. Her book, GRANTED! A TEACHER'S GUIDE TO
WRITING & WINNING CLASSROOM GRANTS, provides methods for writing and winning grants and is an excellent
resource and guide for teachers, librarians and administrators. The author reveals strategic advice of
benefit to grant writers step-by-step, while guiding the reader through every aspect of the grant process.
I highly recommend this book to teachers, educators, and grant seekers who wish to put an end to using
personal funds every year on classroom materials. This book saves valuable time, while being guided, and
improves educators chances of winning a grant. In comparison to THE TEACHER'S GUIDE TO WRITING GRANTS,
Grant-tastic, and THE COMPLETE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO GRANT WRITING, I found GRANTED! to be the most impressive and
professional. Chris Taylor's expertise as a successful attorney, educator, and grant writer, shines through
page-after-page. Her professional background and her burning desire to help the educational community, led
her to become a rewarding grant writer, author, and public speaker. The author's support continues through a
website that offers additional data, worksheets, and more. The worksheets that are included by the author
give the best possible chances of securing grants for supplies, and anything that a grant can help fund,
while organizing, and recording research. The advice of Chris Taylor will indeed save thousands of
dollars every year from out-of-pocket expenses for teachers and educators as she walks you through the
steps to make it happen!
