Editorial Reviews

Review

"If I had been a smarter teenager, these would have been my drawings during math class. Graph Out Loud contains what are, without a doubt, the funniest charts in human history. Suck it, cartographers."
-Christian Lander, author of Stuff White People Like

Perfect stocking stuffer for the nerd in your life who was a teenager in the sixties. Graphs based on songs from that era. Hilarious. Will make your favorite nerd laugh out loud.

This is a very funny book that uses graphs and charts to reference funny favorites in pop culture(ex: probability of quitting as a function of legitimacy {aka- The Hammer Theorem}). I have been a fan of the graphjam website for a while and was looking forward to this book. While I found most graphs hilarious, a small handful were uninspired and there were a few that I didn't get the reference. Luckily, an index was provided detailing all of the pop culture references to help anyone scratching their head. All in all, I would suggest this book to anyone up for a good laugh. It is easy to pick up and read, especially if you just have a minute or two to kill and find some quality entertainment.

Although there were certainly graphs I didn't get (probably based on songs I don't know or perhaps movies I haven't seen), the large number that I did know were almost universally amusing or even laugh-out-loud-able. I especially liked the Star Wars charts. I may buy another copy for a friend, because I think my friend would be entertained by this.

I just don't get it. Maybe I need to be into math and graphs more (I'm not interested at all), maybe I'm too old. Gave it to the library.

I bought this book as a gift for my boss. I don't think he enjoyed it near as much as I did. A lot of music and movie references in it. If you don't know your 80's and 90's movies and music, you probably won't like this book. But if you do, its hilarious.
