About This Book

This book explains what graphs are and how to use them. Graphs, like numbers, are a means of communication. They can inform and educate but sometimes may be used to deceive and misdirect. Knowing more about them will help you to analyze them and better understand their meaning.

216 graphs of various types are contained in this book. They include graphs used in business and scientific applications, as well as at home and in artistic endeavors. The data-collection tables are used to prepare, record and analyze data before you draw a graph.

These graphs are made to be copied on any copying machine. The accompanying disk contains 175 graphs that can be printed with an IBM-compatible computer and a graphics-quality printer. Graphs in the book that are also on the disk are identified with a disk icon next to the page number.

The first section explains how to draw and use graphs. This is followed by instructions for printing graphs from your computer (page 33).

To help you select the best graph for your application, pages 36 through 40 provide a classified index of all graphs in the book. Simplified mathematical and statistical explanations are used to explain grid scaling and graph construction.

4.0 out of 5 stars Re: Problems with the disk., October 13, 2000

This review is from: Graph Paper from Your Computer or Copier with Disk (Paperback)
This is a great book. Here are some points about the disk that someone else raised.

-The disk does NOT require windows 3.1

-The disk DOES require a Operating System with either DOS or a DOS Prompt.

-To get access to the contents of the disk just double click on (or type the name, and press enter) the 'ALLPAGES.BAT' file.

-What this does is extract all the graphs, grids, maps and other miscellaneous bits and pieces in *.BMP form on to your hard disk in a directory called 'GRAPH'.

-Then all you have to do is print them off with any graphics software (Windows Paint will do the job just fine).

The only complaint that I have is that the book was written by an American for Americans. There should also be an ISO version of the book which uses A4 Paper instead of (or as well as) the US Standard (Letter).

1.0 out of 5 stars Requires Windows 3.1!!!!!!, September 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Graph Paper from Your Computer or Copier with Disk (Paperback)
This book requires something from the Windows 3.1 disk -- with no hint of where to obtain it.

It may well be a wonderful book if you've got a Windows 3.1 disk available -- but, since I don't, I had to return it. (Yes, there is a diskette in the book -- but the introduction specifically acknowledges that it does not include the required file(s) from Windows 3.1, and that this is required for the diskette to work.)

The book may well be fantastic if you've got access to the Windows 3.1 disk -- but this seems a major turn-off since so many of us don't (given that Windows 3.1 was introduced on 5.25 inch diskettes, which won't even fit in current computers even if we could locate them.)
