About the Author

Iril C. Kolle was born in 1966 in Oslo, Norway. She was educated in signmaking and decoration before moving to graphic design and later Visual Arts. She has worked with graphic design since 1986, primarily towards magazines and newspapers, and has also done illustrations for various publications in Norway. After a brief detour as a journalist, Iril went back to design, and discovered the Internet and HTML in the mid 90s when she designed one of the first e-commerce solutions in Norway. Simultaneously she started using her first Graphic Tablet with Photoshop.

She has worked with Internet Solutions ever since, and has a portfolio that contains web solutions for both shipbrokers and motocycle resellers - and everything in between. She is still making illustrations, but works 100% electronically, using a Wacom Intuos Tablet. She has made a tutorial on using Photshop masks and Intuos for Wacom Europe, and keeps up to speed on various software by taking online classes. She now has her own company, developing concepts for the Internet, concept visualization plus advising clients on Internet solutions. Iril lives in the country with her fiance, four cats, a dog, a turtle and several fish. Her Web site is http://www.iril.no

This review is from: Graphics Tablet Solutions (Solutions (Muska & Lipman)) (Paperback)
The book is well written and adequately illustrated and is a good beginner's guide to image processing as well as providing good general guidelines about the use of Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Power Point, Corel Draw and many other programs.

The problem is that it is supposed to be about tablets (like the Wacom Intuos, etc). There is really only one chapter (Ch.2) that refers to tablets in a very general way. From there on you go (very well-done)overviews of the basic principles and tools used in image processing and manipulation. You are told, for example, about the Clone Tool. But you are not told anything specific about how using the clone tool with a tablet is different from using it w/a mouse. No tips, no settings, no illustrations, no reference to the tablet (or its pen) at all. And so it goes with every single tool and process for 11 chapters.

If this was a beginner's book on image processing, I would give it 5 stars. It is interesting, well organized, well-written. But it was the only book I could find on "tablets", it even has "tablets" in the title; and I was expecting it to address the issue of "tablets" at some length. It doesn't.
