Product Description

If you're looking for a graphing calculator app that works smoothly and seamlessly, you've found it! Graphing Calculator by Mathlab is a scientific graphing calculator integrated with algebra and is an indispensable mathematical tool for students in elementary school to those in college or graduate school, or just anyone who needs more than what a basic calculator offers. It is designed to replace bulky and costly handheld graphing calculators and works on virtually any Android phone or tablet.

Furthermore, Graphing Calculator by Mathlab displays calculations as it performs them on the high-quality display of the Android device, making it easier for the user to understand the calculations and see them clearly. This app has two great strengths. First, it acts as a fine scientific calculator, but, more than that, it displays the intermediate steps of the calculations as you type. It allows the students to both watch and learn how the calculations are made and how to find the final answer. Second, the graphing ability is absolutely stunning! Not only does the calculator beautifully display the graphs, but it automatically generates the x- and y- values and displays them as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best math/algebra apps available. May 28, 2014

This is one of the apps I've had on my Wish List for quite some time. I've been looking at this and a few other apps...some were cheaper, but not as good, so I was trying to figure out if I wanted to spend the money or get less functionality.
Then today I saw this was the Free App of the Day!
Decision made!

This app is an amazing calculator, even capable of doing some symbolic calculations instead of only number crunching. It's not *Mathematica* on a tablet...but it is one of the most powerful calculators and graphing apps you can get. This version lets you define your own functions to make up for the lack of built-in if you're in the financial business, you can program in all the interest formulas and have them at your fingertips. You can also program constants, and use, engineers, you can program in the Young's modulus for steel, concrete, etc. and easily update them from job to job as the materials change.

Anyone familiar with a standard scientific calculator will have no problems using this app. Trig functions, logs, exponentials and most other "basic" scientific functions are built in. And with the Library, you can program your own extended functions (hyperbolic trig functions, probability, etc., etc., etc.)

The permissions are minimal (just the three listed on the description page) and for all its power, this is an amazingly small download.

As a working physicist, this is the best FAOTD I've seen so far. I was on the fence about paying the full asking price (I would have snapped it up in a heartbeat at $2.99, but $4.99 seemed a bit pricey, to me), so I'm sure that asking price is also a bit high for most students (the market this really seems aimed towards).

By all means, if you are a student or just like math, get this app.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helps This Parent Review Math Homework May 28, 2014

I like this app just for the simple fact I can solve high school and junior high algebra equations in checking my children’s homework. Graphing a solution, to me, is just an added bonus although it is one of the prime features. If you’re a parent who doesn’t remember all of the algebra rules or how to do what seems (from my vantage point) to be core algebra and other math problems, I’d get this in a heartbeat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Like it April 5, 2013

Just a neophite math student, but like what this does. Is a little slow drawing the graph sometimes, but handles things like the graph of tan x better than most. Haven't tried the derivative functions, and couldn't locate an antiderivative function, but haven't looked at the help web page much so might be more there. The larger your range (set by thumb and forfinger expansion and contraction) the slower it is. This is actually a good sign as it means the program is taking the larger area it is drawing into consideration, and trying to figure out all the values therein. At least I think that is what is happening. For most typical formulas I inputed there was no problems using this calculator.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another nice calculator app May 28, 2014

I will always remember my first really nice calculator. I bought it "on sale" from an electronics store in Manhatten. It was a TI with an LED display, a host of scientific functions, a random number generator, and a price tag of about $180. I fell in love with it in the store and used it for years ... until the battery would no longer recharge.

Now similar calculators cost 20 to 40 bucks, or you can get a superior tablet app like this for under ten dollars ... or on a day like this gratis as the Free App of the Day!

This calculator has a low permission load with absolutely nothing to worry about. Additionally it has a great feature list in modes and functions, PLUS user creatable functions. So if it is missing anything you need, you can simply add it to the app.

I only saw a couple if hiccups in the app, but I did not consider them major enough to dock it a star. It can be a bit too easy to bring up its QWERTY keyboard by mistake, and when you do it is sometimes a two tap (rather than one tap) combination to get back to your numeric keyboard/function display. Also, one time I accidentally got a display of logic terms across the bottom of the display. The display covered things I needed to do with the calculator, and I only got rid of it by using the tablet's "back a screen arrow". However, I consider these to be minor user interface quirks that will likely not occur (or at least often) with a greater familiarity with the app's operation.

On the good side I liked the way the app displays your entire calculation, and in a fully editable form. You literally create your equation and the calculator solves it as you go.

5.0 out of 5 stars pretty cool application, nice features, right price June 27, 2012

I was looking for a graphing calculator for my Droid and this one has all the features I needed for playing around with the equations in Cardano and Omar al-Khayyam. One of the dangers of these devices: if you input x^3-8x^2+49=0 (Cardano chapter 30 problem 5), you'll get the full cubic solution for all 3 roots (7 is very easy to miss amongst all the radicals and quotients), but you won't see the quick factoring (x-7)(x^2-x+7) which yields Cardano's much simpler solution. Documentation is a bit thin but available in more detail elsewhere.
It's a nice app and besides, anything that gives a value for i^i...
