First of all let me say I give the item itself 5 stars. But I don't like the way they package it. Basically this item will work with 3 brands of trimmers - Black and Decker, Weedeater, and Toro. But it is not just one item, there are 3 separate ones for each brand. They sell you all three in one package. It's a bargain if you have more than one trimmer, I guess, but not if you only have one. So that annoys me. They should sell you just the one you need and then it would cost less. You also wouldn't then have 2 attachments laying around you have no use for.

Anyway, that's the bad. Now the good! We have a Toro corded trimmer. I HATE using it. I am constantly checking to see if I still have line, constantly fearing that sound change that occurs when the line disappears inside the unit so you have to flip it and unscrew the spool and fight with it, constantly grinding the head to a pulp against the concrete in a futile attempt to bump more line out. I can never get the !#@$ thing to work right. My husband thinks I am just inadept at weed-whacking but I don't see him getting of his duff to do it so I just do the best I can. :-) There tends to be a lot of muttering and swearing involved.

I saw this at the hardware store when I went to buy new line for the trimmer. I figured I would give it a try. When I got it home I noticed that INSIDE the package it tells you not to use it for trimming against solid objects. I was a little ticked at that - what good is THAT? I'm thinking people trim against houses, fences, etc - that's the point of a trimmer. I would have returned it except I couldn't find the receipt. Since I was stuck with it, I figured I may as well try it out along the driveway and sidewalk and it worked GREAT.

I've been looking for a quick, snap-in head replacement for my "weed eater" for some time. There used to be one of those "As Seen on TV" products around, but it seems to have disappeared. For some reason, the only string trimmer replacement heads available these days are for gas powered grass trimmers. So I was excited to find this item for electric trimmers. Problems started as soon as I opened the package. There were three discs (each one a potential trimmer head replacement) and a nut. When I unfolded the instructions, they turned out to be 1) an add for another product, 2) two pages of instructions for installing a replacement head (a totally different model number) on a gas weed eater, and 3) safety precautions. So I checked the manufacturers website for help. The don't have their installation instructions posted online. The only option is to call or send them an email. So I sent them an email explaining that the instruction sheet was for gas trimmers, not electric. Their response was, and I quote, "Turn the instruction sheet over for the electric trimmer instructions..." Nothing more. Not even a "thanks for contacting us" or "sorry you're having problems." Just "Turn the instruction sheet over for the electric trimmer instructions..."

Thank goodness they told me. I never would have thought to do that. So I scanned the two sides of the instruction sheet and sent it back to them to illustrate that THERE WERE NO ELECTRIC TRIMMER INSTRUCTIONS on the back side of the sheet. Faced with evidence of their error, they decided to totally ignore my response. Nada. Zip. Nothing. They don't even know what's on their product instruction sheet!!! And as best I can tell, despite the fact that the item says it fits Black & Decker trimmers... IT DOESN'T FIT BLACK & DECKER TRIMMERS!

Buyer beware. I'd avoid this item as all costs. Go buy a gas trimmer and replace the head on that with a replacement head from a reputable company. Avoid these scam artists like the plague.

I needed to find a way to keep using my B&D weed whacker, a Grass Hog (XP). The Grass Gator seemed like a good option, as at least a couple of people said it fit the Grass Hog trimmers. There are 3 heads in the package, and the one with the clip flanges looked appropriate for the Grass Hog, but the diameter turned out to be about a half inch too small. I also spent quite a bit of time trying to get a section of line into the head, as it was supposed to be easy, but no appropriate printed instructions, or even anywhere online. I searched the whole Grass Gator site, and moved on to everything that Google and Yahoo could offer. Nada. The only reason you might feel good about reading my review is that I can offer this tip: You thread the line by pushing it into one of the larger openings, and then when it comes out one of the midpoint small holes, you tuck it back into the other hole and it comes out the other side, locked in place. I found that you need to center the line on the midpoint, so the easiest way is to fold it in two and mark the center with a pen for reference. Those basic instructions are not mentioned anywhere.
Don't bother buying this if you have a Black and Decker Grass Hog XP. I am unable to tell you if the little trimmer lines hold up or not because I never got to actually use this item.

The description states that it works with weedeater products but it does not. The instructions even show different parts than are what was included. This was a complete waste of time and money. Do not buy.
