Danny Krivit: The "Grass Roots" of New York Dance Culture, June 2, 2005
This review is from: Grass Roots (Audio CD)
Born and raised in Greenwich Village, New York City, Danny inherited his love of music from his immediate family. His mother was a jazz singer and his father was a jazz club owner and manager of jazz trumpeter, Chat Baker. Danny grew up lessening to music and became an avid record collector.
His diverse musical palate was further influenced by Walter Gibbons of Galaxy 21, Tee Scott of Better Days (and Club Zanzibar in Newark, New Jersey) and the great David Marcuso of The Loft. As a deejay, Mr. Krivit enjoyed guest appearances at the distinguished Paradise Garage, The World and residencies at The Roxy and Body and Soul events.
This disc represents Danny's early musical appetite and is an eclectic mixture of material. "Grass Roots" should not be confused with "disco" or computer hard drive created dance tunes. From the scurrilous rock/club classic "Why Ya Do It" by Marianne Faithful, to the funky and soulful "You're the One" by Little Sisters (Sly and the Family Stone's back-up singers)to the gospel sounds of "You Brought the Sunshine" by The Clark Sister, this CD exemplifies the sound of New York's underground dance culture when it was in its most dynamic and intrinsic period.

nyc make some noise!, December 17, 2001
This review is from: Grass Roots (Audio CD)
This is a collection of true underground old school club records. Danny is a New York Legend. He has picked some incredibly obscure records for this 2 CD set. I have been djing for 8 years now, and I collect records like this. To have all of these put in one place and mixed together is fantastic. I recommend putting this on really loud, turn up the bass and dance for a few hours... These songs are the grass roots of any dance record you hear now. Its all about big drums and rhythm and hundreds of sweaty people screaming and stomping to the unstoppable beat. You can't deny this price either! 2 CDs! so, get it. If you like obscure funky dance tunes this is for you!

This CD brings back memories of yesteryear when NYC was clubland late 70's early 80's. Thanks Danny for mixing "Turn On The Lights" I have been looking for that album for the past decade and could not find it until I heard this CD and bought it right than and there. Great CD for those who want to go bakc in time when clubs were clubs NYC style :-) THis is a CD worth buying.
