Born and raised in Greenwich Village, New York City, Danny inherited his love of music from his immediate family. His mother was a jazz singer and his father was a jazz club owner and manager of jazz trumpeter, Chat Baker. Danny grew up lessening to music and became an avid record collector.

His diverse musical palate was further influenced by Walter Gibbons of Galaxy 21, Tee Scott of Better Days (and Club Zanzibar in Newark, New Jersey) and the great David Marcuso of The Loft. As a deejay, Mr. Krivit enjoyed guest appearances at the distinguished Paradise Garage, The World and residencies at The Roxy and Body and Soul events.

This disc represents Danny's early musical appetite and is an eclectic mixture of material. "Grass Roots" should not be confused with "disco" or computer hard drive created dance tunes. From the scurrilous rock/club classic "Why Ya Do It" by Marianne Faithful, to the funky and soulful "You're the One" by Little Sisters (Sly and the Family Stone's back-up singers)to the gospel sounds of "You Brought the Sunshine" by The Clark Sister, this CD exemplifies the sound of New York's underground dance culture when it was in its most dynamic and intrinsic period.

5.0 out of 5 stars nyc make some noise!, December 17, 2001

This is a collection of true underground old school club records. Danny is a New York Legend. He has picked some incredibly obscure records for this 2 CD set. I have been djing for 8 years now, and I collect records like this. To have all of these put in one place and mixed together is fantastic. I recommend putting this on really loud, turn up the bass and dance for a few hours... These songs are the grass roots of any dance record you hear now. Its all about big drums and rhythm and hundreds of sweaty people screaming and stomping to the unstoppable beat. You can't deny this price either! 2 CDs! so, get it. If you like obscure funky dance tunes this is for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS ANOTHER GEM, April 29, 2003
This review is from: Grass Roots (Audio CD)
This CD brings back memories of yesteryear when NYC was clubland late 70's early 80's. Thanks Danny for mixing "Turn On The Lights" I have been looking for that album for the past decade and could not find it until I heard this CD and bought it right than and there. Great CD for those who want to go bakc in time when clubs were clubs NYC style :-) THis is a CD worth buying.

4.0 out of 5 stars 30 year cycles... the 70's in all its glory, May 5, 2002

This is the best work put out to date by 'ole Danny Rock (as he was known in his "Roxy" days), he does some strenous elimination from 30 years of record collecting... I applaud him for a job well done, it's very hard to pick the best from the best! It makes for great "edu-tainment" for us younger cats and the older ones who let it pass 'em by alike... some tunes more known and some wonderfully obscure really makes this more of a "body & soul" experience than all the volumes by that name put together. Please keep releasing more stuff like this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Danny Krivit - Grass Roots, September 17, 2007
This review is from: Grass Roots (Audio CD)
Danny Krivit is not only a first rate DJ and compiler, he is one of the nicest musical experts you could ever meet. I interviewed him once for a BBC radio programme on the history of the disco movement and he was a fantastic and modest guy. His NY apt. really *is* wall to wall records - totally the real deal. This is a top compilation too - highly recommedned. Look out for his Salsoul edits too, and 'Edits by Mr K'.

I was chatting with a guy on the internet and he suggested this CD among some others. He was a Paradise Garage regular so I knew he knew. What can I say "Turn on the Lights" is my jam! I just love how he made such an eclectic group of songs work on this compilation. I just sing and dance and sing and dance...ughhh I get goosebumps just thinking about it!
