The Real Deal,

This review is from: The Grateful Dead: The History Of A Folk Story (1908) (Hardcover)
I heard the story of the Grateful Dead from Jerry Garcia himself in a TV interview.Apparently they were sitting around, brainstorming about a new name for the Warlocks,as they were then called.Jerry said he had some kind of encyclopedia or dictionary of folk themes in literature. As he thumbed through the book absently,he said, the term"The Grateful Dead" "seemed to leap out"at him.(His very words-I'll never forget it),with a reference to this book by Gerould. Some kind of search ensued, and they found an old copy(after deciding to take the name for their band). This is that very book.Any true fan of the Grateful Dead, upon perusing this work, will easily see how the theme fit into their music, before and after they they took the name.It is a true gem for any fan's library.Yep,the real deal.It will bring much insight into the folk/spiritual undercurrent of the band, and the hippie movement in general.Read it,and"things we've never seen, seem familiar".
To all the Grateful Dead EVERYWHERE-AOXOMOXOA! |
