mediocre follow-up to a great first volume,

This review is from: Gravel, Vol. 2: The Major Seven (Paperback)
the first volume of Gravel was a great read, but it might have set the bar too high for the next arc to follow. after all the imagination and planning that went into the first 7 or 8 issues, i was sure that the continuing story would be spectacular, given the phone call at the end of volume 1. most of volume 2 is spent on talking and the threat of things that might happen, whereas the first volume is more action packed.it wasn't all bad, hence the 3 stars; still an enjoyable read, and after the first one i simply had to see what came next. if you feel the same need, dont overthink it, give this volume a shot (the 3rd volume gets a bit better than this one). but if you liked the first one for the action, this volume may be too slow for your tastes. decent, not a waste of money, but not as good as the first either; so, 3 stars. save this one for a rainy day. |
