I read this book as a read aloud to my class and they couldn't get enough. They loved the illustrations and the story. Patricia Polacco is one of their favorite author and this book shows you why.

Two weeks ago, I was introduced to Patricia Polacco and "The Graves Family" when the PSAJ at my Library in Chagrin Falls, Ohio came out of the Staff Room laughing. I asked her what made her so joy-filled and she showed me this book. Well, I read it and since then have read every other book in our Cuyahoga County Library System that Patricia has written. I have ordered the book for several friend's grandchildren as well as one of my own. Patricia is a wonderful, creative author and illustrator and simply a quality human being. At 67, I am still a kid at heart and right now, it is my pleasure to know about her, read her books and introduce her and her life work to others.

I like it.,

Great author and illustrator. Good story... but much too long. My students were ready for it to end.

This is a great book for the Halloween season, even though it is not really Halloween book. When an Adams family-ish family moves in, the town is horrified at first, but then learns to love its odd, new neighbors. This is a fun story with fun illustrations that gently teaches tolerance of others. It is a nice addition to the Halloween library, breaking up the monotony of witches, ghosts, trick-or-treating, and pumpkins, yet still in keeping with the fun weirdness of the season. Good for readers in second to fourth grade, and precocious younger readers.

It was a no brainer that we would buy this book, as our last name is Graves. I was excited to read it when it arrived. Honestly, I was disappointed. Story was tangential, wordy with no definitive plot (yes, I realize this is a children's book). My 5 year old seemed bored and he LOVES books, including chapter books. I doubt he'll ask for this book again, which is disappointing since I was so excited about it! Maybe the camping story will be better...we'll read that tomorrow night.
