Bava Jr.s Halloween Theme Park,

This review is from: Graveyard Disturbance (DVD)
Mario Bava's son Lamberto assisted on many projects including Dario Argento's 'INFERNO' and he started directing with 'MACABRE' aka 'FROZEN TERROR' and the great Giallo 'A BLADE IN THE DARK'. After his success with his 'DEMONS' films, he directed 4 horror films as part of an Italian television series called 'BRIVIDO GIALLO'. This one takes a bunch of teenagers who just robbed a deli (Look for Lamberto Bava in a cameo as a cashier who chases them out to their van and then shows up again at the climax with the police) and wind up getting lost in a cemetary. Bava's talent as a technician and cameraman shows in the ensuing set pieces actually placing our teens in a Halloween theme park atmosphere of clutching hands, zombies appearing, atmospheric mists and gnarly trees etc. The screenplay co written with Dardano Sachetti is a mixed bag of past horrors from the betting premise of spending a night and surviving till dawn to collect a bet this time being a treasure ala 'CASTLE OF BLOOD' to the catacombs sequence from Bava's fathers 'BLACK SUNDAY' and comes to a lame halt at the climax. The synthesized rock score by Simon Boswell and passe Eighties dialogue seem to date matters but if taken in context move things along. My favorite of the 4 tele films so far is 'DEMONS 3- THE OGRE' although I still have to view 'UNTIL DEATH'. This one is good for a Halloween night and for people who want to be set designers or Haunted Mansion owners. For fans of Italian horror, you could do better else where.

Great atmosphere, but where's the death?,

Only the son of the great Mario Bava could have an eye for atmosphere like Lamberto does. His two recently released on DVD, made for Italian television movies from the 80's Dinner with a Vampire, and this one Graveyard Disturbance show that talent in spades. Unfortunately, they also have something very lame in common SPOILER! .....nobody dies. Don't get me wrong, lots of great horror movies that are heavy on suspense have a 100 percent survival rating, but you'd think with five or six teenagers (all with very unlikeable traits) you'd have some sort of body count situation. That unfortunately is not the case. We are treated to excellent costumes, Amazing sets, that lame but perfect for 80's horror teenage pop attitude, and then... well, life at the end of it all... life. At least if your going to have that "wow, look we all made it out alive" escape, you gotta tack on one of those "not so fast, your damned for all eternity" wrap-ups. I will give Bava credit though for not copping out with one of those "just kidding, it was all a prank! there were no real monsters." type of endings. Even if It does all ends up feeling a bit Scooby Doo when all is said and done.
Overall though if you like the monsters and the atmosphere of his Demons movies, you should be just as impressed by those two elements in not only this film, but Dinner with a Vampire as well. Just don't expect anywhere near the peril that ensued in those midnight classics. Oh and if you don't or can't understand how someone could consider the Demons films classics on any level, then steer very clear. This Buds' not for you.

Bava at his WORST,

"Graveyard Disturbance" may seem like an interesting zombie/horror movie at first sight, but in reality, it is a sloppy made for tv joke that not even the biggest of bava fans should enjoy. The music and atmosphere are all this movie has going for it. It starts out promising enough, with kids being dared by a strange bartender to spend the night in a crypt under his tavern. After they accept the challenge they head down into the caverns, and it all gets boring from there on out. It seems as if they are walking in circles and nothing new seems to happen. There arent even that many ghoul attacks or sightings, just these idiots exploring the repeating cheesy sets. If you're looking for gore or cool death scenes GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! No one dies during the whole movie accept for at the end. If you want to sit through an hour and a half of bad dubbing and terrible one liners pick this one up.

I read about this Italian horror film years ago.It was made in 1987 and was directed by Lamberto Bava. It is no academy award winner thats for sure but give it a chance. The story is your basic teenagers on the run from the police for stealing from a store. They drive through a thick fog in a cemetery and end up in tavern of creepy people. They take on a bet to stay in the catacombs below in a nearby church. If they survive they will receive a huge treasure. This is when the "BAVA" atmosphere kicks in. Mario Bava did it so wonderful in Black Sunday and his son Lamberto does it here. Very creepy set pieces, lots of creepy fog, and some really cool looking Zombies lurking below. Also check out the family of freaks eating dinner that get scared back into their coffins by the teenagers. There is some real neat make-up on display in this film! I'm a sucker for a "Bava" film so I thought it was worth watching. There is also one scene where a tombstone gets knocked and it moves as in Plan 9 From Outer Space. So if your looking for a Gore film like "Demons" look elsewhere but if you want some great Zombie make-up and atmosphere give it a watch!!

Graveyard Disturbance ?,

This film is not even very enjoyable for those who like "bad movies". I thought it was inconsequential, unimportant and poor. The camera work alone has that negligible TV look to it and I had to take my eyes off the screen every 5 minutes.
So, there are some rituals going on in the catacombs.

This was just horrible. It's not even in the IMDB. What does that say to you? No real plot. Horrible dialogue. Awful awful awful. This is 93 wasted minutes of my life that I will never be able to get back.
