Editorial Reviews

Product Description

The 8 inch Converted Rodman started out as a seacoast defense gun and stayed in service long past it's usefulness. There are over 140 Rodmans left in this country guarding graveyards and decorating city halls, and this is their story.

Big guns, big shells October 2, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
When I was a kid, I used to see big cannons at forts, and not think too much about them. After reading this book, I realized they are a high tech connection to an earlier time. These cannons were on the cutting edge of their day, heaving large masses of lead and steel at oncoming ships of the line, and more.

The author's writing style is to the point, but not boring or technical. Instead, he is able to convey a warmth and fondness for history and events of an earlier time. He writes like he is talking to a fellow admirer of big iron, but not a collector. And who doesn't like big iron!

I could read books like this all day: interesting, factual, researched, and down to earth. Buy it. I hope he publishes many more.
