The best gamepad out there!,
By Miles H. (Ann Arbor, Michigan USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gravis Eliminator GamePad Pro (PC/USB Mac) (Personal Computers)
First of all, I'd like to say that this gamepad beats all other gamepads. I did about two straight weeks of reasearch for this gamepad and even tested it in stores. I think that it is a lot better than any of the Microsoft gamepads because the great D-pad. What I like about the D-pad better than Microsoft's D-pad is that it is a lot bigger and easier to move because it is like a big joystick. I would also like to say that the Precision function is great for shotting games for targetting. Last of all, I found the gamepad was a lot more comfortable than Microsoft's and other brands of gamepads. It gave me a nice grip too. Also the buttons are pretty easy to reach, accept for the four action buttons which were a little far appart, but I didn't think I should take away a star for that. Well, anyway, I highly recomend this gamepad for anyone who really want's to do well in their games.

Lots of programmability, but control is scattershot,

The Gravis GamePad Pro was the first gamepad I gravitated towards after doing some major gaming-oriented computer upgrades. It looked cool, had plenty of support features, the Gravis name, and the unique D-pad feels like it would be perfect for all sorts of gaming.Much of this is true. The software is excellent, all buttons are completely programmable to your needs, and it's easy to install. The downside comes with calibration. I calibrated in Windows and within specific games and the GamePad Pro could never achieve a satisfactory calibration. The cars in my racing games were all over the place, taking the fun factor to zero. Very frustrating. I returned this controller and exchanged it for the far superior Microsoft Sidewinder Gamepad USB. This controller may fare better on some other types of games or other systems, but it was certainly not for me.

poor quality, & died for no reason,
By A Customer
This review is from: Gravis Eliminator GamePad Pro (PC/USB Mac) (Personal Computers)
I've had this gamepad for only a few months, and it died all of a sudden for no apparent reason. My experience was similar to what another person posted.. at first, it stopped working occasionally, and I would have to reinstall drivers, etc., to get it to work again - so I thought it was a software problem. Now the light that comes on for the "precision" button no longer comes on, and it seems that there is some kind of physical problem with the circuits.. it's not even getting power. I've never dropped this gamepad, nor has it been used excessively, so I chalk it up to cheap components. Also, when it *was* working, it didn't work well.. yes, it looks nice, and it's relatively comfortable, but I found it very difficult to calibrate - it needed to be recalibrated frequently, and sometimes, mid-game, the calibration would change suddenly, and could not be reset without resetting the computer first. Even when you did get the directional center assigned, it would waver back and forth, even though you weren't touching the pad. The software they included was worse than useless. Stay away from this one.

Great gamepad, but fragile...,

When I saw it in the store, I held it on the display to see if it was good. It felt great, I liked how the buttons were situated. But if you have Windows 2000 or Windows XP, the software you have to use is only available on the Gravis site, and is only in Beta form. But thats not the bad part about it.I use the pad for no more than a couple days, and it no longer wants to move up or down. I figure its a driver problem, so I uninstall and reinstall the software package. Still no go. Be very careful with the directional pads on this gamepad and any ones with a similar rounded directional pad, as they are very cheaply manufactured and break easily. If I could, I would have returned it, but it was a sale item. It has a three year warranty, but the way I play games with it, I really don't want to have to keep sending the gamepad back every couple weeks to get fixed. You are better off with the normal Gamepad Pro or Gamepad Pro USB, that looks like a Playstation or PS2 controller, as it has a better directional pad (it isn't the rounded type).

The next generation of Gamepads has arrived,

This gamepad is extremely easy to use and setup!! 10 customizable buttons makes transition from keyboard to Gamepad very easy with the Gravis software package. The precision option for the Gamepad makes aiming weapons extremely easy and more accurate. Overall worth the money for this item.

I bought a Gravis Gamepad Pro about 7-8 years ago and it is still going strong to this day. My 6 year old and I have been playing Wakeboarding unleashed and knew we needed another gamepad. So this past weekend I bought the Gravis Eliminator Gamepad Pro. Unfortunately, I cannot calibrate it correctly. It keeps wandering to the left or right. When i called Gravis and asked, the lady with the foreign accent at tech support tried telling me that it was the game and that I needed to try another. I told her this was my only game. She said then that a technician would call me back.... still waiting. It's going back to the store.

Disappointed,

I had a lot of problems with this game pad. In using it, it was a little too sensitive. I tried adjusting it and just can't seem to get it just right. Too time consuming to figure out the right adjustments for each game you want to play. d

This review is from: Gravis Eliminator GamePad Pro (PC/USB Mac) (Personal Computers)
First off, this pad was very easy to install.I did'nt even need to load the gravis software or download the windows XP software to get It to work. All I did was plug It in and windows XP reconized It automatically, and I was playing in no time. The quality of the pad is pretty nice, and is decently comfortable as well. However the D-Pad is horrible!! It's not really a D-pad at all. It's a analog stick with a d-pad shaped face on It,instead of your usual knobs on the end like most analog sticks. The result is horrid control!! like most analog sticks,It might be good for raceing and flying games. But for other games like street fighter where you auctually need presise control to pull of the special moves like fireballs, etc.Such things are extremly difficult to do with this pad.And the thing has no grip to It,1/2 the weight of my thumb alone is enough to cause It to register a command sending me in the wrong direction. Overall It's a nice quality pad but the horrible D-pad shaped analog stick and even worse control, tottally ruin the whole thing.I'd give It a zero If I could.

PERFECT!,

This is THE gamepad to get. I love it. The interface was easy to use, the buttons are laid out perfectly and the D-Pad is GREAT! Only one flaw, the D-Pad is hard to double tap for fighting games, or any other game, it's hard to go in a perfect line too. But other than that is the best gamepad I have ever used, I even tossed my old Sidewinder.

feels good on hand, but d-pad needs improvement,
By A Customer
This review is from: Gravis Eliminator GamePad Pro (PC/USB Mac) (Personal Computers)
This is my third gamepad from Gravis. They really make nice gamepads, if only they make them durable enough! I like the way Gravis weigh down the wings... makes holding on to it feel good. The button design and layout has always been well thought of, but problems always starts with the direction pads. After a few months, they start having calibration problems. It progressively gets worse, and after a year, you feel like throwing it away and getting a new one. Good thing is they are relatively cheap. But I really wish they could improve the direction pads so I don't need to keep buy a new one annually! |
