Let me start by saying that this book does have a few good ideas in it. In fact, implementing one or two of their clever plans might be well worth the cost of the book. So why do I rate it so low?

First, many of the other reviewers have hit the nail on the head when they say that this book is primarily material repackaged and not so well disguised from other books...many other books. If you're a savvy consumer, you already know most of what they have to say.

Second, but perhaps more importantly, most of their concepts revolve around shady-to-unethical tactics at worst, and unsavory intentions at best. Today's consumer is smarter than ever and is looking to do business with ethical types. If you trick people into opening your direct mail piece or lure them in with big promises and then fail to deliver, they'll flee!

Some of their suggestions break the Cardinal Sin: they waste people's time. Here's free marketing advice: NEVER waste a potential customer's time. And whatever you do, don't make them feel foolish for believing in you for one second.

I won't tell you not to buy it, but I can say that I won't be keeping my copy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining but not unique, April 13, 2008
This review is from: Gravitational Marketing: The Science of Attracting Customers (Hardcover)
This book for the most part is just a rewrite of markeing principles found in countles books. It is eerily similar to "Monopolize Your Marketplace: Separate Your Business from the Competition Then Eliminate Them" by Richard Harshaw. They cleverly reposition things that most experienced marketers already know. For example they replace the 4 Ps of Marketing with their "Three Rings of Gravitational Marketing" Nice try guys. Though the information is a strict repeat of information you can find anywhere the entertaining presentation may be worthwhile for small business owners who need a marketing refresher and who in general find marketing to be the most boring part of their business.

5.0 out of 5 stars The blueprint for marketing success, May 12, 2009
This review is from: Gravitational Marketing: The Science of Attracting Customers (Hardcover)
If there were a book that was filled with the recipe for marketing genius this would be the one. The information is not just academic fluff but piles of information that you can actually use to help your business grow. The methods help you lay out the underlying plans then you just need to implement them. Some of the ideas in the book are not just the run of the mill rehashed information in all of the other books, and some of them you may not agree with but you can come up with some ideas that can be used in the way that you want. People have gotten smarter so you may need to use something newer.
The point is buy the book use what works for you and grow your marketing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly effective methods delivered in an engaging, page-turning fashion, March 28, 2008
This review is from: Gravitational Marketing: The Science of Attracting Customers (Hardcover)
As a 20+ year veteran of marketing, I've helped hundreds of clients grow their businesses with millions of dollars of increased annual revenues. Last week, I purchased 20 copies of Gravitational Marketing to give to my best clients and friends. It's THAT good!

Jimmy and Travis have taken the best of the best practices in attraction marketing and put them into an easy-to-follow, systematic plan that ANYONE can use to increase their sales and profits. I know from experience ... This stuff works!

Even better ... they go beyond delivering great principles and tactics by presenting an action agenda that will serve as a roadmap for growth. In fact, on one page they even give a "secret" URL that people can visit to download some fill-in-the-blank computer templates to help apply the materials. At first, I thought it was a clever gimmick. THEN, I downloaded and tested the templates. All I can say is WOW. Even being a long-time, highly paid and highly successful marketer, I would easily pay 5 times the cost of the book for these templates alone!

I highly doubt that there is a marketing book out there that I haven't read (in either Academia or the mainstream). I've always recommended titles by my mentors Dan Kennedy (very tactical) and Jay Abraham (highly strategic). I still love those guys and the work they've done. But, NOW I'm recommending Jimmy and Travis! They have synthesized the strategic and tactical levels of marketing into a real system that can help any business owner or sales professional increase their income --- quickly and enormously!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-have addition to the libraries of entrepreneurs and sales reps. Full of practical applications and examples, May 14, 2008
This review is from: Gravitational Marketing: The Science of Attracting Customers (Hardcover)
Gravitational marketing is as step-by-step marketing primer that a business owner or sales rep can use to create a pull-marketing system for their businesses that is both easy and a lot of fun to read.

As noted in an earlier review, a lot of the and concepts in this book are not new and students of Dan Kennedy and Jay Abraham will recognize them. In my opinion, this is a strength of the book because the "renaming old concepts" is in and of itself an excellent example of putting a new spin on an old idea in order to successfully promote and sell it. As Earl Nightingale says in the Strangest Secret, "If you want to succeed, look at what everyone else is doing and do it differently."

However, it is good to remember that proven concepts presented in a new format will have the reader thinking of new and unique ways of implementing proven strategies.

What is particularly enjoyable about the book is the conversational tone and the loads of examples of how the authors implemented these strategies for themselves and their clients. You will find dozens of samples that are good reference points for creating your own marketing materials. They cover the creation and implementation of a marketing system that can benefit any business (or non-profit).

Will everything they recommend work? Not likely but remember that your business is better off having dozens of strategies that work occasionally than one that works most of the time because, as things change, that one thing may fail and you are very vulnerable. Follow the program recommended in this book and your business will be supported and growing on multiple pillars

If you add this book to your library, and you should, you will find yourself referring to it repeatedly to stimulate your marketing system.
