Gravity Dancers is the 4th volume of DC area women's fiction edited by Peabody in the past 5 years. The 22nd publication by Paycock Press (begun in 1976 and named for Irish playwright Sean O Casey's play Juno and the Paycock) adds 44 more women into the mix for a grand total of 161 women scattered throughout 4 thick volumes totaling over 1,600 pages. Are there really that many women writing fiction in the DC area? Apparently so. What are they writing about? You name it. Sex, death, love, hate, birth, murder, children, parents, revenge, the endless war, and somehow laughter among the grim choices in an even grimmer world. About the Author
Richard Peabody, a prolific poet, fiction writer and editor, is an experienced teacher and important activist in the Washington , D.C. community of letters. He is the founder and co-editor of Gargoyle magazine and editor (or co-editor) of 17 anthologies including Mondo Barbie, Conversations with Gore Vidal, A Different Beat: Writings by Women of the Beat Generation, Coming to Terms: A Literary Response to Abortion, and Grace and Gravity: Fiction by Washington Area Women. He is the author of the novella Sugar Mountain, two short story collections, and six poetry collections including Last of the Red Hot Magnetos and I'm in Love with the Morton Salt Girl. Peabody teaches at the Writer s Center in Bethesda, Maryland, one of the countries premier independent literary centers, and at Johns Hopkins University, where he has been presented the Faculty Award for Distinguished Professional Achievement. He lives and works in Arlington, Virginia.

I went to Poetry & Prose in Washington, DC yesterday to support the launch of this newly published book, and an aspiring young writer.
Ms. Shayla Davis is an aspiring young Black writer embued with literary passion. I am of the opinion that she is light years ahead of her peers of this generation,(as she is only 26) and even if I am not a literary Master. Her family, drove some distance to support her. We live in an age where I heard last year at a University of Maryland graduation ceremony, "only 16% of African Americans are getting there degrees and 11% of Hispanics. With those overheard facts, I know her Mom and extended family is proud of her. I beieve she may be the youngest published writer in this series. This is one in a series of four volumes which is comprised of 161 Fiction writers from the Washington DC area, published by Richard Peabody, Jr. Indeed, " a lush collection that covers the literary waterfront."
