Light years BEHIND The Incredible Machine,
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Gravity (Video Game)
I've seen this game compared to The Incredible Machine[...] from years ago... although similar, it's not nearly as much fun as the old Incredible Machine games.
The Incredible Machine contained a wide variety of parts for solving the puzzles... balls, balloons, lights, dynamite sticks, fans, etc. So far, Gravity (we're at puzzle 30 or so), only provides a few items (balls and beams) to solve the puzzles. Sure, maybe it's more realistic (using gravity as the only force), but not nearly as fun. Having said that, it is still quite addictive.

Just got this today from GameStop...and have been playing it for the last hour or two while my kid sleeps....VERY addictive! I am on level 33 out of 100 and while they haven't been the hardest puzzles to figure out (I only got stuck on one so far, hoping they keep getting more difficult as the game progresses), the game is a LOT of fun to play. The simulated gravity in the game is VERY realistic. Definitely recommend, the backgrounds and feel of the game are really cool too. I really like how there are multiple solutions to most of the puzzles, not just one answer, and how you can keep testing your placement of items while you are solving the puzzle. Definitely get this if you like thinking and physics, it's a great game.

Fun and Strangely Addictive Game,

This game is fun and also strangely addictive. You are given a few beams, some balls and occasionally some strange carts, to build something which will guide a ball to hit a button. The only force you have is gravity though, so you have to really think about how to accomplish the task with the tools provided. It becomes very addictive as you work your way through the puzzles. It is a nice break from violent, in-your-face games and requires only your knowledge of how gravity works. (The box mentions knowledge of physics several times, but don't let that scare you away - it's not like re-visiting your high-school physics class.) The soundtrack is quite repetitive (I would recommend putting it on mute). Finally, if you are looking for a flashy, high action game, this one is not for you.

This is similar to a PC game called Crazy Machines that I've enjoyed. Other reviewers have noted that this may have been better as a PC game, assuming that you'd have better control with the mouse than the Wii remote, but I disagree. Control via the remote is fine, and it's a much nicer experience playing the game on the sofa in front of the big TV instead of hunched over the PC.
We got the game for Christmas, and I was the first to finish, so about 2 weeks to solve the 100 levels. Your mileage may vary, but I thought I got my money's worth out of it. The puzzles are cleverly designed and often require innovative solutions. There are often several ways to solve a puzzle - I've watched my daughter solve them in completely different ways than I had. Small minuses are that there's no way to see the "intended" solution. I struggled through several puzzles wondering what the designers had in mind - it would have been neat to see if my approach was the same as theirs. And there's a limited number of "hints" your allowed - you really need to budget them carefully because there's no way to get more. And yes, the puzzles do get harder toward the end. The included "party mode" was a nice bonus. It's rather optimistically named, I think - if this is the centerpiece of your party, you've got trouble. But there are some small, easy to play games that are quite addictive. Our favorite is where you have a cannon shooting small balls at a castle made of blocks. Object is to completely level the castle in as few shots as possible. (6 is the record so far). Fun for the whole family, as they say, though probably too tough for kids under 10 to solve without help.

I thought this game was great. We compare all puzzle type games and even some others to Gravity now. Some of the puzzles are easy and some will really make you think. I would buy gravity 2 in a heartbeat. I just hope the next one is 200 levels instead of 100.

This game is not a time limited game, you have the luxury to take your time and think before trying; the party games do have time windows. Moving through the 100 puzzles is very straight forward, but the answers are not. What is very nice is that there can be more than one way to solve the puzzle. It takes a lot of discipline to not just hit the hint button when getting stumped, however through patience and thinking the answers can be found. The fact that the hint buttons have a cost that you must budget against keeps one from hitting the button for no reason. I would have liked if some of the party games had more options, such as longer durations or the ability to play head to head. Still very fun.

Rather weak and doesn't make good use of Wii controls,

I was rather unimpressed with this game. The puzzles are fine, but you can find similar puzzles for lower cost to play on the pc, where you will not be continually frustrated by trying to balance a ball using the Wiimote. I don't see the advantage of playing this type of game on the Wii. Also I find that sometimes you wonder why your solution is not working, only to find it's because you had to move a block just a hair over to one side or something -- again, it just seems needlessly frustrating on the Wii. Get this game only if you can find it at a great discount and really have a thing for these types of puzzles.

My brother and I gave this to our parents for Christmas and it has been a hit with the family. My mother, who had never before played with a wii and is usually skeptical about gaming had tons of fun and even beat my father at some of the party game rounds. The standard gameplay is good for cooperative puzzle-solving too.
Although I agree that it does not have some of the fun features of the old Incredible Machine game, it is a little truer to life and having fewer options with which to solve the puzzles really makes one focus on being creative with just the pieces offered. Overall, it made a family of nerds quite happy and we still haven't beaten the game.

I wasn't a huge fan of this game. I love puzzle games on the Wii and PS3, but I thought this game was disappointing. After trying it the first couple of time, I just stopped playing it since it didn't interest me that much.

This game is fun....although I have not advanced past the first couple stages(I refuse to ask for help..yet)....and it will keep me busy on cool, rainy Pacific Northwest nights this winter, I'm sure. Lots of fun for very little money.
