4.0 out of 5 stars Another great love story., September 26, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Gray Hawk's Lady (Paperback)
From the minute I saw Gray Hawk's Lady on the shelf I knew it would win my heart. I am a sucker for Indian romance novels. It's all that I read, and the cover seemed to transcend what was to come. An exciting trip that would make me bubble with laughter, cry and even get angry.

To think Mr. Toddman would double cross Gen-ee's father and begin a study of his own after squandering finances afforded to him on gambling. Truely poor taste, ole chap. But I was glad to see in the end that Mr. Toddman did get what was coming to him.

Another scene I enjoyed was of the party in St. Louis, celebrating her father finishing his study of the different tribes. Lady Genevieve dressed in the finest St. Louis has to offer and Gray Hawk in his matching buckskins. Then the glance across the room that melted my heart.

Another thing about the book I found quite interesting was the describing of the different tribes that make up the Blackfeet Nation in the preface. It helped in the understanding a bit.

This is my first book of Karen Kay's, but I am so looking forward to the next installments of her Blackfoot Warrior series.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great early American romance!, December 26, 2010

OK, in spite of the (ahem) interesting cover, this is a really good book!

This is the 4th Karen Kay/American Indian romance I have read and I have found some definite themes one must be aware of before diving in...

1. They are light romance - NOT intense, dark, studies on social and political posturing.

2. The viewpoint is sympathetic to the Indian but both sides are handled with consideration and care.

3. While the circumstances and situations may be a stretch, the characters are written realistically and usually stay true to the personalities written.

4. The romance is always yummy!

In "Gray Hawk's Lady", we find Genevieve working hopelessly to finish a study of the American Indian that her Father must publish in order to stay solvent. The only tribe left is the illusive Blackfoot when her Father falls gravely ill. Her subsequent journey to enlightenment and love is great fun, as she captures, loses and is captured in turn by the handsome Gray Hawk. Like I said, the situations may be stretched but the experience is sure an enjoyable ride!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this one, July 14, 2004
This review is from: Gray Hawk's Lady (Paperback)
Lady Genevieve sets out to the Blackfoot territory to being back an Indian (compensated for their time) to her father who has taken ill while researching the American Indian tribes. Her father is in St. Louis and to keep their family honor and monies he must have this tribe represented and finish the book very soon. She hires two trappers to procure her an Indian. It is not until they are about to set sail on the steamship again to St. Louis that she find the man they procured was kidnapped.

But, she is under a time table and decides to "keep him"
But, he turns the tables when the steamship explodes and sinks. He takes her captive to teach her a lesson. But, they both learn a lesson while they travel back to his home, one of love and culture. As they travel to his people he teaches her what she will need for her book and she helps him understand that not all white men are what he sees in the fort.

This one started out a little slow but when it started to move it moved quickly and I became thoroughly engrossed. I really enjoyed this one and have gone to find the other 2 in this series

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, Adventurous, Romantic, October 8, 2003

Karen Kay has a great way of teaching you true Indian history, while taking you on a journey that makes you feel like you are there on the scene. This book is a great example of that.
Gray Hawk and "Gen-ee" have such an adveture, which ranges from a river boat, to a trek on land into Blackfoot territory, then back on foot to St. Louis. Hunting, fighting enemies, and plenty of romance along the way. Good giggles when Gen-ee has a few problems learning the Indian way of life.
I did find the beginning of this book to be a bit slow to get moving. But once Gen-ee manages to take Gray Hawk captive, the story takes off and never slows down. So keep reading!
Adorable ending had me closing the book with a smile on my face.
I've read all 3 of Kay's "Blackfoot Series" books. I recommend them all. The companions to Gray Hawk's Lady include "White Eagle's Touch" (EXCELLENT BOOK!), and "Night Thunder's Bride" (ALSO EXCELLENT!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Ending could've been better, but it was great read!, August 7, 2006

I thought the entire plot was excellent! Bad guys getting theirs and good guys getting the girls. I thought the ending was a little sloppy but it was great. If Mel Gibson can stay out of trouble, I see him buying the movie rights to this book and turning it into a movie, after he is done with Apocalypto.
