5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting, Action Packed Episode -Best One of the Season!, March 7, 2009
By
This review is from: Dollhouse Season 1 (Amazon Instant Video)
By far, "Gray Hour" is the best episode in the Dollhouse universe thus far this season. After last week, I was somewhat reluctant to watch again, but decided that I might as well give it a try. I'm so glad I did because "Gray Hour" had me sitting on the edge of my seat, hanging on to every word, every moment of the episode to see what would happen next.

This week, Echo is imprinted with a kind of super-thief personality. Together with two accomplices and an antiques expert, they use deception to break into a hotel's art vault to steal a piece of the Greek Parthenon. However, things don't go quite as planned when Echo's imprinted personality is suddenly wiped via her cell phone from an unknown source. In order to get her out and to complete the engagement, Sierra is brought in.

Filled to the brim with excitement and trademark Whedon humor, "Gray Hour" has set the standard for what future episodes of Dollhouse should be: fast-paced, unexpected, witty and entertaining. Even though I couldn't help but compare this episode to Ocean's 11, it was a great take on the traditional thief story. I was especially surprised by the fact that Echo, for the first time in the series, was not successful in her mission and had to be helped. It was also interesting to see what would happen if an Active was allowed out of the Dollhouse in the "tabula rosa" state and why the Dollhouse is set up the way that it is.

"Gray Hour" is truly the breakout episode of Dollhouse so far this season. The show really seemed to hit its stride here and delivered an exciting, entertaining thrill ride that keeps the audience hooked. The best part of this episode was the fun, witty dialogue that truly developed the characters and gave the audience some much needed comic relief despite the serious nature of the story.

I hope that the rest of this season will be just as enjoyable.
