Excellent!,
By marketer's dream (Jacksonville, FL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gray Rainbow Journey (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book! It has everything I like in a great novel: some action, important
themes, some humor, suspense; and all told from the Native American perspective-- which is unique. I found myself really rooting for Dina, the main character, and hoping she made the right choices. I was even praising God for Uncle Donnie's healing! Needless to say this book really drew me in and I can't wait for the sequel!! I definitely recommend this book!

A must read for people interesting in Native Americans,
This review is from: Gray Rainbow Journey (Paperback)
All Americans are immigrants (or their descendants). It's just that some of us have been here for over 10,000 years. The indigenous peoples of the Americas have cultures and ideas that are completely different to any other. This beautiful story is a wonderful way to learn the ways and struggles of contemporary Native Americans. This really opened my eyes to a culture I was previously unfamiliar with.

Fascinating. Many Interesting Facets & Not Just for Native Americans,
By
This review is from: Gray Rainbow Journey (Kindle Edition)
This author has many skills. Her feel for Native American culture and the characters in her book are very fascinating. I have only read the first 1/2 and find myself wanting to leave other work related serious reading, to finish it.
The author is quite a talent when she can create a desire to read and hook the reader. I appreciated the respect and insights into our true Americans, sharing insights in a story that is also enjoyable and not mere facts. The author is not known to me in any manner.

Great coming of age story, not for young adults only,
By
This review is from: Gray Rainbow Journey (Paperback)
Gray Rainbow Journey tells the remarkable story of a young woman caught between two cultures. She is torn between her Indian boyfriend and his native religion and a Christian minister who also loves her. Besides offering an insider's view of the Native American world, the story would appeal to nearly any woman as it explores why we are drawn to men we know--or should know--are not good for us. Though billed as a young adult novel, this one definitely makes a great adult read as well.

Gray Rainbow Journey the beginning and the end,
This review is from: Gray Rainbow Journey (Paperback)
OakTara Publishers really received a jewel when they received the manuscript for Gray Rainbow Journey. K.B. Schaller wrote a story which the reader must struggle to put down.
The strong characters and their emotions make the reader feel them coming right from the book. Who could possibly forget Dina Youngblood's torn feelings for Marty or for Aaron? And what about God? Where does he fit in? What is Dina to do with her life and Uncle Donnie? What difficult decisions Dina must make. K.B. has written each chapter so that one just flows into the next. The language is rich and full. She includes many Indian phrases. She also explains many of the Indian traditions and ceremonies. Because of her scene-setting, the reader can feel that he or she is out in the Everglades. At the same time, much of the conflict that Dina Youngblood feels is universal. Although written to introduce the reader to the Christian Indian experience, it also can be between any groups of young people in today's diverse society. I recommend this book to any young person and any adult involved with young people. The story is exciting, very well-written and I am looking forward to reading the sequel. |
