This novel, the first book by Molina to be translated into English, won the Xavier Villaurrutia Prize in Mexico, which is equivalent to the National Book Award. It is an account of a young woman abroad in England in 1969 who has a brief affair with the renowned Mexican poet Jose Carlos Becerra. The reader is gripped by the heaviness of the young woman's obsession and confusion in experiencing first love with an older man of whom her family does not approve. Thus, the entire book is filtered through the distorted perception of the main character. The novel is quickly read and will appeal to enthusiasts of Hispanic literature and poetry because of the autobiographical information implied about Becerra. Still, much of the poetic simplicity of Molina's writing, remarked upon by reviewers, seems to have been lost in the translation.
