A Fine Collection of Travolta's Recordings,
By A Customer
This review is from: Greased Lightnin (Audio CD)
All of John Travolta's original solo hits, including "Sandy" and "Greased Lightnin'" from the movie "Grease," are included on this 23-track CD. Younger fans may be surprised to learn that Travolta actually charted with a few of his singles, scoring his biggest hit with "Let Her In." Some of the songs are cover versions ("Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" by Eric Carmen, "Right Time of the Night" by Jennifer Warnes, and "A Girl Like You" by The Rascals), and the most avid Travolta fans will be pleased with the inclusion of the Paul Williams tune, "What Would They Say?" from Travolta's cult TV-movie, "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble." The CD's only downside, aside from the absence of liner notes, is the exclusion of Travolta's two duets with Olivia Newton-John, "Summer Nights" and "You're the One That I Want," but both of these songs can be found on the "Grease" movie soundtrack as well as Newton-John's "Back to Basics" collection.

The Best CD EVER!!,
By Chad Fifer (SoCal) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Greased Lightnin (Audio CD)
I bought it as a joke, and in a way it continues to be a joke, but let me tell you, for the six or seven bucks it is definitely worth the joy it will bring to your life. All of the Travolta CD's more or less feature the same tracks, so you can't really go wrong with any of them. The guy ain't much of a singer, but there's some real sincerity there -- he's trying. My favorite track is "Rainbows." Oooh -- it's bad -- yet so damn good. This is a pop icon at his cheesiest. I always wonder if his friends call his answering machine and play some of these tracks as a joke. Incidentally, the solos from "A Girl Like You" are the sampled basis of Fear Boys with Bugs' "I'm All Right."
